Happy New Year to everyone!
But, did you know that 1 in 5 pets go missing during a fireworks celebration?
As such, please take every precaution during tonight’s festivities!
Here (see photo) are just a few good tips that will help.
Note - there are also some calming medications that can help ease the stress and trauma caused by pyrotechnics (contact your veterinarian), but please also make sure your pet is microchipped (just in case it runs away).
Oh yeah…thanks to Archie for modeling.

Caught red handed sleeping on the job!

You know it’s going to be a great day when even your clients come in sporting the spirit! Today was “red & green day.” (Leo didn’t get the message so he’s just wearing his fur coat)

BTW tomorrow is “holiday hat day”…in case you have an appointment and want to create some holiday cheer.

Christmas Eve is of course PJ day.

Just a heads-up regarding our upcoming holiday schedule.
SCVC will close at 1pm on Christmas Eve day (12/24), all day on Christmas Day (12/25), and all day on Friday (12/26).
SCVC will also close at 1pm on New Year’s Eve day (12/31), and we will be closed all day on New Year’s Day (1/1).
We truly wish everyone a wonderful holiday season, a very Merry Christmas, and a happy New Year!

Treasure kind of day. Jewelry in the intestines, too many paw prints to count 😞, and a bead Christmas party to top it all off. Sad and glad kind of day. Pretty typical for veterinary medicine. We have to make it special or we might cry too much. Happy Friday!

Zen, oh Zen, what did you eat? He pleads innocence since his new yard has all kinds of buried treasure. Who can resist?
Emergency surgery with a gastrotomy (incision in stomach) and enterotomy (incision in small intestine), and Zen is on his way back to digging for buried treasure.
The worst thing that he ate was the tiny thread/string that connected the two bezoars (clump if indigestible debris). String in the intestines, called a ‘linear foreign body’, acts like a saw and cuts through the intestines. Zen was on his way to Zen heaven without surgical intervention.
During this holiday season, in order to keep your zen, make sure your pets do not have access to strings, ornaments and tinsel.
Happy holidays!

This is the time of year when a lot of folks consider getting a new pet.
Before you do, please take a moment to ponder these “top ten” considerations:
1. Can you afford and/or are you willing to provide your pet(s) the proper veterinary medical care (preventive and potentially otherwise) and maintenance needed and deserved?
2. Are you OK with the house training that will need to occur in order to make your pet resident friendly?
3. When your pet reaches the geriatric stage of life, are you OK with health issues that may come along with that?
4. Are you willing to tolerate the mess that will probably be made (over and over) by your new pet?
5. If you choose a “working species” of pet, are you willing to dedicate the amount of time needed to keep it mentally and physically fit?
6. Will your new pet acclimate well with other pets you might already have?
7. Will it acclimate well with other humans in the house?
8. Will it fit in with your personality and lifestyle?
9. Do you have a plan regarding how the pet will be cared for in your absence (such as work or vacation)?
10. Will you love it and care for it for a lifetime?
Sidebar…after pondering all of these points and if you’re still going to get a new pet, please consider adopting!
