On World Veterinary Day, we recognize the veterinarians who quietly safeguard both equine and human well-being every single day.

This year’s theme, “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health,” reminds us of the vital role vets play from farm to (pitch)fork. In the equine world, that care extends even further. Veterinarians support not only the health and welfare of horses, but also the safety, trust, and integrity of the environments where horses and humans interact.

For those of us working alongside horses in therapeutic and learning settings, the well-being of the herd is foundational. Healthy horses make this work possible. And behind that health is the knowledge, vigilance, and dedication of equine veterinarians.

Today, we pause to acknowledge and thank the professionals who care for the animals that care for so many. Have an equine veterinarian that's part of your herd? Use this post as an opportunity to give them a shout out of appreciation.

Sending a salute to this group! Their work has been nothing short of heroic: Eagala's Military Program Partners serve veterans through the Adaptive Sports Grant and the Wounded Warrior Project across 17 states.

Since 2017, these Eagala Teams have been providing equine-assisted psychotherapy to veterans year after year. While research teams analyzed outcomes, these partners were delivering sessions, collecting data, and holding space—session by session, story by story. Their consistency turned research from an idea into a reality grounded in lived experience.

Over the years, they have delivered more than 10,250 (!) Eagala sessions to approximately 1,700 veterans, creating safe spaces for healing, growth, and connection. This work didn’t just support research, it changed lives.

We are deeply grateful for your perseverance, compassion, and unwavering service. Because of you, veterans found healing, and the world now has the evidence to prove it.
