What a great way to celebrate National Doctor's Day! 🥼🩺👶🏾

Students from Bruton High School in Williamsburg, VA watched our very own Dr. Zachary Wohlgemuth, Sentara OB-GYN, speak live on 13News Now - WVEC Live Impact with Eugene Daniel 13 News Now.

Dr. Wohlgemuth highlighted Sentara's investment in improving access to maternal care in Elizabeth City, including the addition of certified nurse midwives and the use of advanced technology like the da Vinci robot.

We recently celebrated International Women’s Month, honoring the strength and leadership of women throughout our hospital and community.

We were inspired by guest speakers Wendy Pierce and Teresa Watson, and proud to recognize women nominated by their peers for making a difference every day.

This year’s International Women’s Day honoree is Katy from the Emergency Department, whose leadership and calm under pressure exemplify what it means to serve with courage and heart. 💜

We’re grateful for the incredible women who make SAMC what it is.

Michelle Jackson, registered nurse in Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum, was recently surprised with the DAISY Foundation Nurse Award for going above and beyond for her patient, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room! 🌼

When Michelle learned a patient was facing challenges accessing expensive formula, she stepped in without hesitation and made sure mom and baby had exactly what they needed.

Her husband and daughter joined our team for the celebration, making the moment even more special. ❤️

True to who she is, Michelle didn’t seek recognition, but we believe it’s so important to celebrate caregivers like her who quietly make a powerful difference every day.

Thank you, Michelle, for living out what it means to serve with kindness and dedication. 🌟

Finding maternity resources shouldn’t feel like a scavenger hunt. That’s why we brought everything expecting parents need under one roof. 🍼💙

More than 200 expecting parents and their families joined us for our Baby Fair. The event was filled with everything they needed to feel ready and supported: free diapers, postpartum care guidance, mental health resources, health screenings, real conversations with providers, and more.

Plus, families got to tour the labor and delivery rooms and meet the team who be there for their big day – including our newly expanded midwifery services.

We’re here for growing families, from pregnancy through postpartum and beyond.

Big news for the future of healthcare in northeastern North Carolina! 💙🩺

Mid-Atlantic Christian University just unveiled its newly named Sentara Health Lab, a space designed to inspire and prepare the next generation of local healthcare professionals.

Sentara has invested $1.5 million in northeast N.C. since 2023, and this new lab is another big step in strengthening STEM pathways, supporting student success, and helping grow the region’s own homegrown nurses, providers, and science leaders. 🌟

Titus Bleckley, a senior at MACU, will be traveling to Germany soon to present research he conducted in the Sentara Lab.

Here’s to brighter futures, stronger care, and the next wave of healthcare heroes! 🙌💛

🌟 March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month! 🌟

After more than 30 years in private practice, we are proud to welcome Dr. Steven Faber, board-certified gastroenterologist, to the Sentara Surgery Specialist team!

Dr. Faber has treated more than 40,000 patients in our community and recently stepped away from running a practice. However, as the only GI provider in Elizabeth City, he felt an obligation to stay and help Sentara strengthen their GI services.

“It’s a calling, I love what I do and I always have,” said Dr. Faber, who grew up in Brooklyn, New York and went to medical school in Italy.

Dr. Faber spends four days a week at the hospital performing colonoscopies and caring for patients with reflux, ulcers, blockages, and other GI concerns.

📉 In 2026, colon cancer became the #1 cause of cancer related deaths in men and women under 50. Common symptoms include:

• Blood in stool
• Abdominal pain or cramping
• Unexplained weight loss
• Changes in bowel habits

💙 Dr. Faber urges everyone age 45+ to get screened. Early detection saves lives.

📞 To schedule a colonoscopy or appointment with Dr. Faber, call 252-384- 0600.

🚨❤️ In a cardiac emergency, every second matters.

Sentara Cares provided $8,000 to help place automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in Camden County Sheriff’s Office patrol cars in northeastern North Carolina. This support puts lifesaving equipment directly in the hands of deputies who are often first to arrive when someone needs help.

We are grateful for our partnership with the Sheriff’s Office and proud to support the safety of the communities we serve. 💙

Woah baby! Did you see team SAMC on 13News Now - WVEC's Live Noon show yesterday?

Our very own Brenda Elmore (L.D.R.P. Nurse and Lactation Consultant) and Blair Wentz (L.D.R.P. Nurse), and Blair’s six-month-old daughter, Charlotte, spoke about SAMC’s upcoming Baby Fair on Saturday, March 7.

Today is the first day of Chinese New Year, specifically the Year of the Fire Horse, which symbolizes bold, energetic freedom and forward momentum. 🐴🐲🎏🎇

Our team celebrated by handing out fortune cookies and red cards to write New Year wishes. 🥠 🧧

Tara Knowles, Manager of Patient Care Services, spoke with the team about how the Chinese community has contributed to healthcare innovations.

Tara adopted her daughter Allie from China 17 years ago. Many of us know Allie as a Sentara volunteer and apprentice in our nursing program, but it was an honor to listen to her speak about her heritage and what the Chinese New Year is all about.

Tell us your New Years wishes in the comments below!
