For our baseball pitchers; when it comes to mobility I focus on the pitch motion as a whole. It’s said that to have great pitching mechanics an athlete should be able to:

⚾️Utilize the entire body as a single unit.
⚾️Reduce the amount of stress on the throwing arm.
⚾️Produce the greatest amount of velocity with the least amount of effort.

We work on this by focusing on balance in relation to engagement within the starting stance and wind up phases. Stability work in the hip girdle provides the strength/balance needed during the leg lift phase. Isolated glute mobility & stability work does wonders for controlling the musculature needed during the stride phase.

Overall addressing mobility, stability or strength in each phase of the pitching motion!

Thank you again to RISE Mindful Basketball Academy for inviting me back to talk about the importance of muscle recovery!! This time around I went over the 3 most important rules for your yoga practice, the sun salutation and we finished our session with a simple 5 minute meditation. Reiterating to our young athletes to nurture their mind-body connection; it’s more influential then we tend to realize!

When working with the heart chakra we direct our focus to the physical structures that surround that heart and lungs. Your rib cage isn’t exactly the most mobile part of our body but the yoga postures in this flow will increase your ability to expand and contract the rib cage while allowing the breath to flow.

Breath work is very important in these postures due to that super important breathing muscle called your diaphragm; which will be expose or lengthen with each pose. If any of these postures feel uncomfortable for you; your breathe will naturally start/want to restrict. Remember to breath throughout the discomfort; within a few breaths the tension will always subside.
