The Carter County Drug Prevention Youth Coalition prepared and fought for the To***co Retail License at PAT Day on the Hill in Nashville, Tennessee! It was an amazing time, and we learned some valuable lessons for next year.

Things to Do in Nashville, Tennessee during PAT Day on the Hill: Part 1

1. Schedule a visit with Senator Rusty Crowe and Representative Renea Jones. What assets to our government and community! They listened closely to our students' concerns and immediately responded with thoughtful, informative feedback.

2. Definitely wear sneakers in Nashville. Else, you may wind up setting those piggies free for some fresh air!

3. Absolutely walk through the city to get an authentic feel. And then walk some more. Now that you've walked a bit, do a little more walking, please. Squeeze in a nice jog if you can.

Stay tuned for more of what we learned in Nashville this week!

Let us take a little bit of time to recognize our dads. Superheroes don’t always wear capes. You may find them wearing nail polish, milk stains, hair glitter, make up and masks even when it’s not Halloween. Showing up for their kids in multiple ways. Being present across the board. They may be sore the next day. They may be gray the next day, but it is all worth it seeing the smiles, happiness, and love in their kids. The support we give our dads shows up in our kids. It’s not always easy, but it is definitely always worth it!!!!!

Day on the hill. We had such a great time coming to Nashville to talk to state representatives and senators about bill 2360 which is a retail license bill that would require anyone (retailers) who want to sell to***co products to have a license. Retailer fines and taxes from violations (30%) would go into prevention and Prevention coalitions who battle with ni****ne and youth in their community and schools. State Senator Rusty Crowe spoke to us about his roots and connection to Carter County. We spoke to State Representative Renea Jones TN-04 About the same bill. We also shared about what we currently do in the schools and community to combat the situation at hand. State Representative Renea Jones TN-04 explained to us plans and told us to never give up and push for what we believe in. We've had such a great time on this trip. We are so proud of our Youth Coalition for advocating for policy change and letting there voice sing loud for us in Carter County and Tennessee.

🏆 Parenting with Purpose. Raising Substance-Free Athletes. 🏆

As parents, we do more than cheer from the sidelines — we shape habits, values, and lifelong choices. Encouraging our kids to stay substance-free helps them perform at their highest level, stay focused, recover faster, and protect their future.

Being a substance-free athlete isn’t just about sports — it’s about leadership, discipline, and making healthy decisions on and off the field.

Want to learn more about how to support a substance-free sports culture? Check out Substance Free Athletes and the incredible work they’re doing to empower athletes and families. Also, stay connected with Carter County Drug Prevention for all of the events and activities we are doing to support you and your Athlete.
