Partial vs Complete Rotator Cuff Tears | Dr. Drake Explains the Key Differences
What’s the difference between a partial and complete rotator cuff tear? Dr. Drake from Level Up Shoulder breaks it down in simple terms.
A partial tear doesn’t always require surgery. In many cases, targeted rehabilitation and strengthening can help restore function and reduce pain. When one tendon becomes weak or “lazy,” the shoulder can lose balance and efficiency, leading to discomfort and bone spur irritation. Strengthening the surrounding muscles helps keep the shoulder stable and the ball centered in the socket.
In contrast, a complete tear often limits healing on its own and may require surgical intervention to fully restore shoulder strength and motion.
If you’re experiencing shoulder pain or reduced mobility, understanding the type of tear you have is the first step toward recovery.
