First and foremost, THANK YOU to everyone who responded to the cancer statistics questions. We received 90 responses, ranging from diagnoses in 1975 to the present. Breast cancer was the most commonly reported with 19 responses, followed by Colon cancer with 9.
This discussion has already led to some great things happening in Morton County. Morton County Health Department is partnering with the Health System and the Masonic Lodge to hopefully bring FREE cancer screenings to Elkhart toward the end of May, with additional opportunities planned for August.
Please be on the lookout 👀 for more information as details become available.
There are also several grant opportunities that we are currently applying for. These could help bring more partnerships, testing, and treatment options closer to home for our community.

As we talk about Colorectal Cancer Awareness, we need to keep in mind Screening tests versus Diagnostic Testing. A screening colonoscopy is a preventive procedure for adults over 45 with NO symptoms to detect early cancer. A diagnostic colonoscopy investigates specific symptoms (e.g., bleeding, pain) or high-risk factors (e.g., prior polyps). We encourage all patients to discuss ANY concerning symptoms, regardless of your age, with your Healthcare Provider.
