Here's one thing you need to know about your running mileage...

Too much, too fast, puts you at risk for injury. Follow these general rules to help reduce your risk of injury:

1. Don't increase your mileage by more than 10% a week
2. Keep your total weekly miles under 40, unless you're an ultra runner
3. Build in 2 rest days a week

Here's the difference between actually analyzing someone's running form and just watching them run.

Did you know at Motion Activated PT, we have video analysis equipment that we use to be able to slow down and capture real time data and faults?

A lot of small faults are hard to catch just by watching someone run with the naked eye, but can make a huge difference when it comes to your running.

We are able to record you running and go over the results with you during your appointment so you can see changes you might need to make in order to make your training smoother and more pain free.

Here's a quick glimpse of a session working with a client with shoulder pain and weakness early on in her rehab.

We started with some upper back mobility and then shoulder stability. The kettlebell arm bar is one of my favorite exercises to give to someone to work on shoulder stability early on!

Then and Now...

2012 --> 2025/2026

There's maybe only a 5 lb difference between the pictures on the left and right, but it looks like more.

What's the biggest difference? Strength training.

2012: I was working out 3-5 days a week. But, it was mostly cardio and lighter weights. I was still considered fit.

2025/2026: Working out less (3 kids later) but focusing more on lifting--heavier weights!

I don't post this to show a transformation. I post this to show that the same weight can look very different depending on how you're training. I don't weigh less now on the scale, but I have less body fat, more muscle mass, and less visceral fat.

Women--- you can lift heavy and not get bulky! I'll say it again-- you can (and should) be lifting more than those 15 # dumbbells for your health and longevity.

I can...
Squat: 200 #
Deadlift: 245 #
Clean: 135 #
And still not be bulky

Cardio is great, but strength training is even better.
