What a gift it was to have David Wells come and share Reusi Dat Ton - Thai yoga - here at Saranam Retreat Center. We learned practical skills of joint mobilization, self massage, and yoga for daily living. David is a yoga therapist, an author, a very generous teacher, and a kind and funny human. It was a joy to get to be part of a cohort of fine folks who gathered together (from near and far and by motorcycle) to learn from him in this beautiful place.

We hope you join us this Friday for a free Introduction to Thai Yoga. David Wells is an author, certified yoga therapist, Ayurvedic practitioner, and teacher, and we are looking forward to welcoming him to WV. This introduction kicks off the Thai Yoga Workshop that he is teaching at Saranam this weekend. Friday's event is at Jivaka from 6 to 8pm. Hope you can make it!

One week ago, we were at with seven wondrous souls. And by "wondrous" we mean brave, thoughtful, vulnerable, honest, compassionate, game, and very funny. We explored what it means to face both surprises that the weather brings (rain! wind! a lot of wind! sunshine! rainbows!) as well as unexpected discoveries within. We ate a lot of Marmite (or not); we embraced the dialectic qualities of both Michael Jackson and the Grateful Dead; we relished a silent sauna and pond. Most of all, we found ways to connect to the present moment, to our own wise and tender hearts, and to one another. As they say, "The Oracle has spoken." (And by "they," we mean "we.") 😂🥹😭💖

Impermanence is not just a Buddhist buzzword. The reality of it has been hitting home lately, in a big way. There's been so much recent change - global, local, and in many cases, rapid - and, for a lot of the folks we know who've been personally affected, damaging. How do we hang on and get through, from moment to moment?

We know, from our own experience, that having a toolbox of skills always ready and available is vital to our survival. Practicing awareness and mindfulness doesn't always look like achieving a state of blissful calm (whatever that looks like) or relaxation. Sometimes it's about just hanging on and staying present. Engaging deeply and intentionally with the physical senses helps us shake loose from unhelpful patterns, increase compassion for ourselves and others, and find the courage and clarity to make authentic life choices.

Our next Come To Your Senses retreat is the last weekend of this month, March 28-31. The early bird discount we offered was meant to expire yesterday. We know a lot of folks are sorting through a lot right now, and we'd like to extend it another week. In addition, we would like to offer this retreat free of charge to anyone who has experienced an unexpected loss of employment in the past month, due to the recent reductions and restructuring that have cut through so many sectors. More retreat info at the link in our bio. DM with any questions, or to register.

Yesterday was Losar, the Lunar New Year for many Tibetans, which means that Guthuk (Nine Things Soup), which happens just before, has also happened. Of course, you can still do the ritual for it (which involves tidying, saying "shoo shoo shoo!", and getting a special message from a dumpling - we can share more details with anyone who's curious). Actually, it's possible for any moment to be the start of a new year, if you want it to be.

This year is already full of plans we're looking forward to - we'll share more about each of them, in upcoming posts.

Happy Losar, everyone. May all beings be liberated.
