Posted • Did you know? A recent study covering 10,000+ births from 2015-2020 revealed there’s NO increased risk linked to where you give birth! That’s right, whether it’s at home or a birth center, it’s equally safe for both moms and babies.

But why is this finding so crucial? Well, when delving into the safety of out-of-hospital (OOH) births, we’ve got to consider a few things:
1️⃣ Ensuring births are attended by licensed/certified midwives to maintain safety standards.
2️⃣ Creating supportive environments where midwives and clients feel empowered, even in case of hospital transfers.
3️⃣ Comparing outcomes between low-risk women in hospitals and those opting for OOH births.

If a midwife invites you to observe at a homebirth -- then your job is to observe. If she is busy with her client who is in labor, and is not able to address you, the student, do your best to be unobtrusive, patient, kind. Remember, you are observing. Learn from what you see. Clean up the kitchen; cook something for the client, or for the birth team. Ask if you can prepare herbs. Be unobtrusive and quiet -- because this particular process is not about you. Glean what you can and next time you are invited to a birth -- the midwife will appreciate your efforts to learn quietly. She will know that you are there to help; you are there for all of the right reasons. You will have earned the right to be a part of the team.

I have been called to be set apart. I can't blend in and be like the world. I am going to let my light shine amongst the darkness. There are those that may be irritated by my light because my light challenges them to look within themselves. So as I walk this life, every lesson brings me closer into the presence of my Savior, and His Father. I believe that this is a spiritual battle -- I wrestle not against flesh and blood as a Midwife. I choose to stand as a believer in my walk. Because without Jesus, my Savior, I am nothing. He is the light in me and I choose to let it shine.

For believers who are able to connect to this post -- these verses are for you.

2 Corinthians 11:14 “And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”

Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

1 Peter 5:8-9 “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.”

2 Corinthian 4:4 “In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

1 Thessalonians 5:5 “For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.”

John 8:12 “Then spoke Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

1 John 3:10 “By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.”

I just wanted to share that Fetaldoppler.net
is running a Black Friday sale on Dopplers. My first doppler as a student was a Professional Grade, Basic Edan Sonotrax Doppler with a waterproof probe, and I still use it as a water monitoring device and it works very well. They normally charge 199.99, but I just purchased one today for $135.00 with free shipping from them. I don't represent them, nor do I get a share of the sale. https://www.fetaldoppler.net/sonotrax.html

Edan Sonotrax Basic Fetal Doppler, with 2Mhz/3Mhz/4MHz/8Mhz probe
