Spring is here — but that doesn’t mean coughs, allergies, and the occasional injury take a break. From lingering flu cases to kids heading back outside, knowing where to go for care still matters.

🏡 Primary Care: Checkups, allergy flare-ups, lingering coughs, routine visits
🏥 Urgent Care: Minor injuries, fevers, sprains, after-hours concerns
🚨 Emergency Room: Serious or life-threatening emergencies only

Choosing the right place for care keeps emergency rooms ready for true emergencies — and helps everyone feel better, faster, as we head into warmer days. 💙

Big news from Frederick Health!

Frederick Health is bringing advanced cardiac care closer to home with the introduction of a new, minimally invasive heart pump—the smallest of its kind—designed to support patients during high-risk procedures and severe heart conditions. The technology is expected to reduce the need for patients to be transferred to other hospitals by about 25%, helping them receive critical care faster and closer to their support systems.

This investment marks a major step forward for the region, improving outcomes while easing the emotional and logistical burden on patients and their families.

Maryland’s Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) team recently partnered with hospitals and state and federal agencies to donate a shipment of expired medical supplies to ARGUIFA, Inc. (the Guinea Forest Region Diaspora in the U.S.). This coordinated effort cleared two large warehouses in Regions III and V and redirected supplies to make a meaningful impact. The donation included about 132,000 N95 masks, 21,000 pairs of medical gloves, and essential respiratory equipment such as nasal cannulas and non-rebreathers.

MHA thanks the Maryland Department of Health, the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), and hospital partners across the state for making this effort possible. We also recognize Scott Graham, regional safety officer and director of emergency preparedness at Holy Cross Health, Maryland, for his leadership in ensuring these supplies were repurposed.

Becker’s is shining a well-deserved spotlight on chief experience officers who are redefining what it means to receive care. Leaders like Steve M**h, vice president and chief patient experience officer at Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Jennifer Jasmine E. Arfaa, PhD, vice president of patient experience at the University of Maryland Medical Center and University of Maryland Medical System, are reshaping the patient journey—turning every interaction into an opportunity for care that is both clinically excellent and deeply human. 👏
