🩺 This Native American Heritage Month, we’re spotlighting Dr. Loretta Christensen (Navajo Nation) — Chief Medical Officer of the Indian Health Service and a powerful advocate for healthcare in tribal communities.

Her leadership reflects a deep commitment to strengthening healthcare systems and ensuring American Indian and Alaska Native people receive the care and respect they deserve.

🌟 Member Spotlight: MedStar Health 🌟

MedStar Health is meeting people right where they are. Their mobile clinic is rolling into Baltimore neighborhoods to offer free screenings as diabetes rates climb.

They’ve also teamed up with the Franciscan Center to launch the Food RX Program, giving people living with diabetes the tools, support, and nutritious food they need to stay on track through a six-month, no-cost program.

Simple idea. Big impact. 💙

What an energizing day at the Healthy Hospitals. Healthy Communities. Ideas Summit!

Yesterday, MHA and the Maryland Association of Counties brought together nearly 60 local elected officials, public health leaders, nonprofit partners, and community organizations from 18 jurisdictions to discuss the future of health care in Maryland.

We were grateful to be joined by an incredible roster of speakers and facilitators:

The Honorable Howard County Executive Calvin Ball
David N. Maine, MD, president and CEO of Mercy Health Services, and MHA Board Vice Chair
Melony Griffith, MHA President & CEO
Matthew Fuentes of Avenue Solutions
Johanna Fabian-Marks of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange (Maryland Health Connection)
Karrington Anderson of the Maryland Association of Counties
Megan Priolo, DrPH, MHS of CRISP - Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients Maryland
Gene Ransom of MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society
David Sharp of the Maryland Health Care Commission
Tequila Terry MBA, MPH, MHA senior vice president of health care transformation
Andrew Nicklas, MHA senior vice president of government affairs

Their insights helped participants better understand the impact of federal changes on hospitals and, ultimately, on the communities we all serve.

A heartfelt thank-you to every partner who joined us and contributed to meaningful dialogue about the challenges and opportunities ahead.

✨ This , we celebrate trailblazer Dr. Lori Arviso Alvord (Diné/Navajo) — the first Navajo woman to become a board-certified surgeon.

Dr. Alvord blends Navajo healing traditions with modern surgical practice. Her work reminds us that medicine isn’t only about science — it’s also about spirit, culture, and human connection.

Her story continues to inspire future generations of healers, leaders, and changemakers. 🌿💙
