School is around the corner! Truthfully, a lot of the time children aren’t coming into the optometrist early enough! Parents can start looking for signs in their kids as early as 6 months old.

Examples of signs to look for are:
-Frequent squinting
-Poor hand-eye coordination
-Frequent headaches
-Sitting super close to the television or when reading
-Rubbing their eyes A LOT
-Struggling with reading comprehension, recall, skipping lines, or getting tired

Eye color is sooo fascinating 👁️

Did you know that Eye color is determined by genes and the amount of melanin in the iris? That brown eyes are the most common eye color, while green and grey are the rarest? How about the fact that two different colors in the eyes is called heterochromia (in some cases, this can be linked to glaucoma!)? Blue eyes exists because there is a lack of melanin in the iris! If you have hazel eyes you are pretty special- only about 18% of the population has hazel eyes and they can often change color due to lighting and other factors.

And here’s another fact, everyone’s irises are completely unique and eye color does not = a vision risk. What color are your eyes? Comment below!
