In conversations about self-care and family health, we often emphasize the usual: nutrition, exercise, and mental well-being. But let's not forget an equally critical, but often-overlooked aspect: routine eye exams.
Regular eye checkups go beyond just adjusting our vision with the correct lenses. They serve as a crucial gateway to detecting more significant health issues:
☑️ Hypertension: Changes in the eye's blood vessels can reveal high blood pressure.
☑️ High Cholesterol: A yellowish patch on the upper and/or inner parts of your eyelid might indicate high cholesterol levels.
☑️ Autoimmune Disorders: Inflammation in the eye can signal autoimmune diseases, including lupus.
☑️ Thyroid Disease: An unusual bulge in the eyeballs could be a telltale sign of thyroid issues.
☑️ Cancer: Abnormalities in eye structure can point toward ocular melanoma, and a close look at the eyelids can reveal basal cell carcinoma.
If it's been some time since your last eye exam, let's change that. Find an optometrist nearby and schedule an appointment.
Remember, if you have Medicare Advantage, your exam is likely a $0 copay! If you have a MedSupp, check out the discount offered by your carrier!
