Wonderful story in the Ellsworth American on the 30th anniversary of the Ellsworth Free Medical Clinic

The clinic is run as if it is a regular doctor’s office, only there is no cost to the patients who receive care there.

10/01/2022

For the last 30 years the volunteers and staff of the Free Clinic have been ensuring that the healthcare needs of our neighbors are being met regardless of their financial status. If you're in the area today (Saturday, 10/1), we invite everyone to stop by our 30th anniversary celebration between 1 and 3p at the clinic in the Mill Mall.

If you are a dynamic, well organized team person, this may just be the part-time position for you. Development Director is responsible for continuing data collection on a monthly basis, seeking out, organizing and applying for grants and working to enhance the endowment fund. Job can be done mostly remotely, but will need to be in the office periodically as needed.

Writing skills are important as is networking and working with community partners.

The Ellsworth Free Medical Clinic is now offering a range of social work and mental health services for free to underinsured and uninsured members of the community. Please welcome our new licensed clinical social worker, Janice Ronco, whose position has been generously funded through grants from the Maine Community Foundation and the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation. Janice is a licensed clinical social worker with expertise working with diverse populations, including the chronically ill, the elderly, LGBTQ, those with mental health and/or substance-abuse issues, and low-income populations. Please call (207) 667-7953 if interested in scheduling an appointment.

We currently have a need for nursing volunteers at the clinic. If you are an RN, CNA, or LPN who would like to volunteer, please DM or phone the clinic at (207) 667-7953. Nursing volunteers can contribute whatever time they feel comfortable with. Anything from filling in from time to time, to a half-day a month, or potentially taking on a full day per week. Any level of involvement is helpful. Please share!

Due to unprecedented job loss in our community due to COVID-19, the Free Clinic anticipates a surge in uninsured and underinsured patients in need of primary care in the coming months. If you are a MD, DO, PA, FNP or RN interested in volunteering, please call the Ellsworth Free Medical Clinic at (207) 667-7953. Thank you, please share.

There is a critical need at the Free Clinic, and for many other local healthcare providers, for N95, R95 or better facemasks and/or respirators. If you have any you feel you can part with (even if it's just 1 or 2), I would urge you to either donate them to your own healthcare providers or to the Free Clinic. If the Free Clinic happens to receive enough to meet our needs, we will be sharing them with other local healthcare providers ourselves. If you have any you would like to donate, please message the clinic and we'll make arrangements to either pick them up or have you drop them off. Thanks very much.

Just a reminder that the Ellsworth Free Medical Clinic is giving out completely FREE flu shots for uninsured and inadequately insured patients on Saturday, December 14th from 10a-2p at our location in the Mill Mall. If you'd like a little bit more information about the shot and the flu in general, our Drs. Maggie Harling and Brant Viner have put together an article with more information and answers to some of the frequently asked questions regarding flu vaccinations. You can read the article at

Well, it’s flu season again. There’s a higher than usual incidence in some states, but not yet here in Maine. Last year there were 10,000 cases of influenza in Maine, and 45 deaths (including a 3 year old).  A more severe year is projected by the Maine CDC.
