Josh Martin Named to Becker's Hospital Review List of Critical Access Hospital CEOs to Know

Josh Martin, Chief Executive Officer of Summit Pacific Medical Center, has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the nation’s “Critical Access Hospital Presidents and CEOs to Know” for 2025. The annual list honors 103 leaders who are advancing access to high-quality healthcare in rural and underserved communities.

Becker’s Hospital Review recognizes presidents and chief executive officers of critical access hospitals who are driving growth, strengthening partnerships, and improving health outcomes while ensuring patients can receive care close to home. Honorees are selected for their innovative leadership, strategic vision, and commitment to sustaining rural healthcare.

Mr. Martin has served as CEO of Summit Pacific Medical Center for nine years, leading the organization through significant growth with a focus on upstream wellness, population health, and innovative rural care models. Under his leadership, Summit Pacific secured U.S. Department of Agriculture financing for Washington’s first hospital-based wellness center and achieved a Standard & Poor’s bond rating, which enabled a $63 million expansion funded entirely through strategic financing without burdening local taxpayers.

He also negotiated a value-based Medicaid contract supporting the “Food is Medicine” program, transportation, and wraparound services, while expanding specialty access in cardiology, gastroenterology, and behavioral health. Additional accomplishments include implementing the Epic electronic health record system, achieving DNV accreditation and ISO 9001 certification, and maintaining financial stability through the Covid-19 pandemic and reimbursement changes.

“Josh’s leadership has transformed access to care in our community,” said Jennifer Burkhardt, Summit Pacific’s Chief Talent and Legal Officer. “His ability to grow services, strengthen financial sustainability, and keep care local—without placing additional burden on taxpayers—speaks to his deep commitment to rural health.”

The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team curated the list through a nomination process. The full list, featuring individual profiles, is available through Becker’s Hospital Review. Inclusion on the list is not an endorsement, and individuals cannot pay for inclusion.

From simple prep tips to smart ingredient swaps, attendees learned how easy it can be to bring nutritious, budget-friendly meals to the table at home. And of course, everyone enjoyed tasting the finished product.

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated — sometimes it’s as simple as a bowl of homemade chili and a community gathered around good food.

Building Strength with Compassion

We’re thrilled to celebrate Holly Lickwala as Summit Pacific’s newest BEE Award recipient! The BEE (Being Exceptional Everyday) Award recognizes caregivers who consistently go above and beyond to create remarkable patient experiences — and Holly embodies that beautifully.

Here’s a glimpse of Holly's extraordinary care in action:

"I had the pleasure of working with Holly Lickwala, and I truly can’t say enough about how positive and encouraging she was throughout my journey. From the start, Holly made me feel comfortable and supported. She never made me feel bad about where I was in terms of strength and endurance. Instead, she gently encouraged me to focus on progress, no matter how small, and her approach helped me stay motivated.

Holly’s suggestions for improving my fitness were practical and clear. She took the time to explain exactly what exercises would help me build strength and endurance, and she always made sure I felt confident in what I was doing. What stood out to me was how approachable Holly was. She created an environment where I could ask questions without feeling judged, all while maintaining a level of professionalism that made me trust her expertise.

I’m so grateful for the chance to work with her. Holly made the process not only effective but also enjoyable, and I’m truly appreciative of all the guidance and encouragement she provided."

Holly, thank you for your kindness, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to our patients and community. You make a lasting difference — one interaction at a time!
