Summit Pacific Medical Center announces the appointment of Shannon Brear to its Board of Commissioners, bringing decades of healthcare administrative experience and a deep commitment to the organization and community.

Shannon began her career in healthcare in 1988 and has played a key role in Summit Pacific’s growth, including the opening of the medical center, development of the McCleary Clinic, and the Wellness Center. She has also supported leadership, board initiatives, fundraising efforts, and community events that benefit patients across the region.

“Shannon’s dedication and experience make her a great addition to the Board,” said CEO Josh Martin. “She brings a strong understanding of our organization and valuable insight that will help guide our continued growth and service to the community.”

This month, Dr. Amir Atabeygi and Christina Mitchell presented at the National Association of Rural Health Clinics conference, sharing insights on the value of dyad leadership—a collaborative model that pairs clinical and administrative leaders to better align strategy, improve access, and drive performance.

Their session emphasized how trust, shared accountability, and clear communication lead to faster, more effective decision-making. Through real examples from Summit Pacific, they demonstrated how this approach strengthens workflows, enhances team engagement, and supports sustainable growth across services.

From clinical care to behind-the-scenes support roles, students learned about the wide variety of professions that work together to keep our community healthy.

These scholarships are made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of our community and the dedicated caregivers at Summit Pacific. Your support helps invest in the next generation of healthcare professionals who will care for our communities in the future.

Summit Pacific Medical Foundation Student Scholarship Fund is now receiving applications for 2026. Last year, The Foundation awarded twenty-seven scholarships of $1,500 to graduating high school seniors from East Grays Harbor County pursuing healthcare and related fields (i.e. IT, marketing, business, nutrition, data science, etc.). In addition, we award three scholarships to second year nursing students at Grays Harbor College.

Employees of Summit Pacific and members of the community contribute annually to a scholarship fund to promote the education of local students. A scholarship committee reviews applications, interviews and selects recipients who best meet the criteria and show initiative to follow through with their chosen academic program.

The Student Scholarship Fund, first established through the Foundation in 1994, has provided 152 scholarships to students in the Grays Harbor County Public Hospital District No.1. While the scholarship fund was originally started by an anonymous donor, today, Summit employees make up most of the donations to the fund.
