Wisdom teeth aren’t always painful, but impacted wisdom teeth can still lead to infection, damage to nearby teeth, or other complications over time.

“Impacted” simply means there isn’t enough room for the tooth to come in properly; so it gets stuck under the gum or comes in at an angle, making it harder to keep clean and easier for irritation and infection to develop around it.

Even without obvious symptoms, this can lead to infection and swelling around the gum, and in some cases, it can slowly damage the jawbone and surrounding teeth.

Swelling and tenderness are most active, and protecting that early healing process is what keeps recovery on track. Here’s a checklist to make your recovery easier, and more comfortable:

✅ Protect the clot

✅ Use ice packs for swelling

✅ Take medications as prescribed

✅ Hydrate and choose gentle foods

❌ Vigorous rinsing

❌ Straws

❌ Smoking and alcohol

❌ Skip citrus, spicy, and crunchy food
