“Comfort comes not just from medicine, but from the presence of loved ones and the peace of mind knowing you are cared for.” – Kathy Kalina
Peggy Smith started volunteering with Hand in Hand Hospice, because she enjoys talking with people and she wanted to be helpful.
She wanted to get the satisfaction of bringing joy to other people, especially when they need it most, through this experience.
Volunteering is something that is not new to Peggy. She also volunteers at “God’s Store House” in Burlington.
The root word for Hospice means hospitality and Peggy provides that to the patients she visits on a regular basis.
Dealing with people close to the end stages of life is not something that is new to Peggy.
“I have stayed with people who are dying and cared for my Mom when she was dying,” she said.
The Hand In Hand Hospice team is grateful to have Peggy on their team.
“Peggy has never turned me down when I have called her to see if she can assist with being a volunteer for a Hospice patient,” said Erin Reece, Volunteer Coordinator. “She is always willing to help others and has a positive impact on the lives of so many people.”
In addition to being a Hospice volunteer, Peggy has also completed training for Bereavement training, to help the families of the patients who have passed.
