Paula Shaw Counseling

Paula Shaw Counseling An Open Mind and an Open Heart are the two best reasons Paula can help you. But it doesn't stop there. You must have the movement piece.

"Your issues show up in your tissues…and I'm not just talking about the ones in your Kleenex box,” says Paula, "seriously, I'm talking about the ones in your body. I believe that all mental and physical illness has its origin in unresolved emotional issues...usually grief, from some form of loss." "As a result of the work they are doing with me, clients are putting away the Kleenex, improving their health and moving on with their lives. We get to the root of the emotional blocks, limiting beliefs and problematic behaviors that are the underlying causes of their mental and physical problems. Insight and awareness by themselves, aren't enough to create change. That's where the Energy Psychology and other Mind/Body approaches are invaluable.”

In this episode of Change it Up Radio, I am joined by Marjorie Saylor, who is a survivor of s*x and labor trafficking and commercial s*xual exploitation, to discuss the grim reality of human trafficking and s*xual exploitation, along with the trauma and grief that survivors of these horrors experience.

Today, Marjorie is the Program Director of Alabaster Jar Project's long-term shelter program and drop-in resource center for adult women survivors of s*x trafficking. She shares her journey from victim to survivor to advocate, turning her past into a platform for education and advocacy against trafficking.

We talk about the prevalence of human trafficking worldwide, including in the United States, the vulnerabilities that traffickers exploit and methods they use to lure and trap victims, different factors that prevent victims from leaving exploitative situations, and the importance of support networks, resources, and dedicated efforts to combat trafficking.

Marjorie dedicates her life to combating s*x trafficking and providing support to other survivors. Her life has been a journey from the depths of exploitation to the heights of hope, and she is dedicated to ensuring that others can make the same journey. To those still trapped in the life of human trafficking and s*xual exploitation, Marjorie offers a heartfelt message of hope and empowerment, encouraging them to believe in their worth.

In this episode of Change it Up Radio, I am joined by Racquel D. Yarborough, who shares her story about losing her twin sister in a tragic circumstance. In 2018, Racquel’s sister, Rashauna, was killed while trying to help a victim of domestic violence.

Despite her non-violent nature and peacemaker personality, Rashauna’s efforts to defuse the situation led to her being shot by the aggressor, and she later succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Racquel discusses the harrowing events of that day and the subsequent grief and recovery process that she and her family went through.

Throughout this episode, Racquel recounts her childhood and growing up with Rashauna, and talks about the unique bond that they shared. She discusses the difficulty of dealing with her sister’s sudden and violent death, and how she found herself struggling to find time for her own healing and self-care.

Today, Racquel describes her life as peaceful and purpose-driven, inspired by her sister’s memory to live a meaningful life and to help others. Her story is a powerful example of resilience in the face of tragedy, demonstrating the potential for healing, growth, and finding our way back to a fulfilling life after experiencing a profound loss.

This episode is an absolute must-listen for anyone seeking to understand the complexities of grief, loss, and healing.

In this episode of Change it Up Radio with Paula Shaw, I am joined by Tammy Noice Oluvic to talk about combatting the su***de rates of veterans, active duty military, and first responders, and promoting mental health wellness and healing to these heroes through equine-assisted learning and activities.

Tammy is the CEO of Saddles In Service, an equine therapy and horse rescue organization that she founded with her husband Mike, who retired from the United States Navy in 2016. She joins me to discuss how horses and equine-assisted activities help rehabilitate and aid in the mental health wellness and healing of our heroes.

Tammy shares how Saddles in Service helps our heroes who may feel anxious, depressed, angry, or isolated by bringing them together with rescued and rehabilitated horses, allowing them be more present and learn to trust and respect one another through grooming, groundwork, and riding which brings peace, healing, and a sense of purpose to both the heroes and horses.

In this episode of Change it Up Radio, I am joined by Tony Perez, a Vietnam War Veteran and the Founder/President of Operation Game On (OGO), a golf rehabilitation program for returning combat-injured Veterans suffering from severe physical and mental disabilities sustained in combat while deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Tony provides insight on how golf provides mental and physical rehabilitation which rapidly allows these troops to regain confidence and enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle again.

He shares how Operation Game On’s program assists injured soldiers through their rehab by simply taking their mind off injuries, surgeries, and doctors, creates a healing social environment amongst the Veterans with newfound lifetime friendships and a sense of community, and gives them hope of a clearer future after their tragic injuries and the traumatic experiences of war.

In this week's episode of Change it Up Radio with Paula Shaw, I talk about tuning in to what lights us up so we can make 2022 an amazing and joyful year.

There is so much opportunity amidst the fresh energy of a brand new year, but so often, we don’t follow our bliss or step into what lights us up. We think we can’t do what we truly want because it’s not practical or it won’t pay the bills. Even worse, we get so stuck on figuring out ‘the how’ behind what we want, which only pushes us further and further off course from where we’d like to be.

The theme for our Fall season of the show was Resiliency, and now as we move into a brand new year, I want to talk about our new theme: Light – being open to the light, enlightening ourselves, and lightening up. In this episode, I’m also going to talk about why New Year’s resolutions can cause us to focus on failure more than success, and why a New Year Reset can be a much healthier and more positive approach to staying in alignment with our desires and making 2022 our best year yet!

In this week's episode of Change it Up Radio with Paula Shaw, I discuss how to handle the holidays when you’re dealing with loss or emotional pain, plus how we can support and comfort those who are hurting during this time of year.

It’s that time of year again where there is lots of excitement in the air with all of the Fall and Winter holidays that have been recently celebrated and are fast approaching. While it’s a joyful time of year for many, it’s also a very difficult, demanding, and draining time for those who are dealing with the weight of a loss or any type of emotional pain.

In this episode, I talk about why the holiday season, in particular, is such a tricky time for people who are hurting, the importance of nurturing ourselves and doing less or doing things differently when we’re feeling overwhelmed and emotionally exhausted, and five steps for having successful, comforting, and supportive conversations with those who are hurting during this holiday season.
