Wisdom Heart

Wisdom Heart Wisdom Heart is a global community dedicated to spiritual awakening, meditation, and service. We’re ordained swamis in the Kriya lineage. And powerful.

The Wisdom Heart Way (WHW) distills and focuses a 5,000 year old spiritual system (called Kriya Yoga) into a form that works for 21st century people. We’ve been engaged in committed practice of this method since 1972. We’ve tested the practice in real life. We’ve applied the practices and principles personally, in our relationship, with our kids, and in our businesses. In the process, we discovered how to preserve the potency of the original transmission – while purifying out the cultural artifacts that are extraneous. The result is a teaching that is as spiritual as it is down-to-earth.

* Deepen your connection with the sacred – moment-to-moment
* Integrate powerful spiritual practices into the structure of your life
* Meet the inevitable challenges of life with clarity – not drama
* Answer the Call – without cutting off parts of yourself

It’s simple (though not always easy).

How Do States Become Traits?

At the heart of meditation—and really, at the heart of any path of mastery—
is a simple movement:
from states to traits.

Neuroscience names it this way.
Depth psychology calls it stages of development.
Contemplative traditions have always pointed to it.

What we touch in moments
can become embodied.
What we glimpse
can become stable.

Peace is not just an experience.
It’s one of the natural expressions of a life that has learned how to integrate truth at every level.

How Do States Become Abiding Peace?

In meditation, nothing stops moving.
Thoughts arise.
States shift.
Attention wanders.

What changes is the relationship.

Distraction is noticed effortlessly,
and in that same moment, attention returns.
Not through effort—through familiarity.

As this effortless return is cultivated,
a deeper capacity develops:
the ability to abide.

The tradition calls this samadhi—
where meditator, meditation, and the felt sense of peace
are no longer separate.

Peace remains,
even as every wave continues to arise within it.

How Does Concentration Become Abiding Peace?

At the beginning of meditation practice, concentration requires effort.
We notice distraction and intentionally return attention to the object of meditation—
a felt sense, a mantra, the recognition of peace.

As this returning becomes familiar, something deepens.
Attention strengthens.
Rest becomes possible.

The mind no longer needs to be forced back.
Wandering is noticed—and in the same moment, attention naturally returns.

This is the movement the Gita points to:
from concentration
to meditation
to abiding peace.

Peace That Doesn’t Come and Go

Most of us know what peaceful states feel like.
They arrive. They pass. They show us something—and then they’re gone.

The Bhagavad Gita and the Kriya Yoga tradition speak about something else entirely:
being established in peace.

This isn’t a mood.
It’s a foundational quality of being—like the sky that holds every changing weather pattern.

Practice isn’t about chasing better states.
It’s about cultivating the inner stability that embraces the whole of life.

You Don't Need to Still the Waves

Peace isn’t something we create by fixing the mind or smoothing out experience.
It’s something we learn to abide in—even as thoughts, emotions, and sensations rise and fall.

This short meditation reflects on a single verse from the Bhagavad Gita, using the image of the ocean that receives every wave without losing its depth.

Settle in. Listen. Let the words work beneath thought.

Is it time to stop?

Our culture values motion - forward motion. Action.
Non-stop is best!
But, is it really?

Isn't there a time when being still is the most valuable, enriching, creative, clarifying, and . . . um . . . productive thing to do?

Yes!
