Sundowning can be one of the hardest parts of dementia care — especially when evenings suddenly become more confusing, restless, or emotional. 💚
While the exact cause isn’t fully understood, it can be worsened by fatigue, low lighting, hunger, overstimulation, or changes in routine.
Here are a few things that may help:
✅ Keep a consistent routine
☀️ Encourage daylight exposure earlier in the day
☕ Limit caffeine/sugar later in the afternoon
🔇 Reduce evening noise, TV, and overstimulation
💡 Keep lighting soft but adequate (shadows can be triggering)
🥪 Offer a light snack + water before evening sets in
If you’re dealing with this at home and have questions, feel free to message us — we’re always happy to share ideas or resources (no pressure). 💚
