Grandma Has ADHD

Grandma Has ADHD I'm Jami Shapiro the founder of Silver Linings Transitions and an ADHD specialist. I have ADHD as do my parents and two of my kids.

As a senior move manager, I’ve worked intimately with seniors challenged with decluttering and downsizing.

For years, many of us brushed it off with “I have ADHD… so what?”

But ADHD isn’t just about focus or productivity — it affects your entire nervous system.

In this clip, Jami Shapiro and . Michael Lenz talk about what happens when ADHD goes unrecognized for decades. Migraines that won’t quit. IBS. Chronic pain. Fibromyalgia. Symptoms that get labeled as “stress,” “anxiety,” or worse — imagined.

Once you start seeing the pattern, it’s hard to unsee it.

Treating ADHD doesn’t just help with attention — it can change how the body processes pain, fatigue, and overwhelm.

If you’ve ever felt dismissed, misunderstood, or told “everything looks normal” while your body says otherwise, this conversation is for you.

ADHD is bigger than we were taught — and understanding it can change everything.

This is exactly why these conversations matter! ADHD doesn’t expire at retirement! Curiosity, growth, and self-understanding are always worth it. 💛

If you’ve ever been told “why bother now?”— this is definitely a must-read. Late-diagnosed ADHD is real—and valid.

Does every task feel like an emergency to your ADHD brain?

That’s not because you’re dramatic or bad at prioritizing — it’s because your brain struggles to sort urgency in real time. When everything feels equally important, overwhelm takes over, anxiety spikes, and nothing actually gets finished.

In this clip, ADHD coach Ryan Mayer breaks down Task Triage using an ER-style system:

• Red = must be done now

• Yellow = important, but can wait

• Green = inconvenient, not urgent

• Black = no return on energy — let it go

For ADHD brains, learning that not everything deserves your energy can be life-changing. Especially the Black category — the tasks we keep forcing ourselves to do even though they drain us and lead nowhere.

If you’ve ever felt stuck, frozen, or spinning because everything feels urgent… this is for you.

You’re not lazy. You’re overloaded.

Many older adults aren’t “just aging.” For some, decades of undiagnosed ADHD, constant criticism, disorganization, and feeling like they can’t keep up creates a quiet emotional burden that can lead to depression and even suicidal thoughts.

In this conversation, Stephen Wright explains how ADHD in seniors is often overlooked, mislabeled as “normal aging” or mild cognitive decline, and why that can be dangerous. He also shares how rejection sensitivity, executive dysfunction, life transitions, and isolation compound emotional stress — and why we need to start recognizing these warning signs sooner.

This isn’t just about mental health. It’s about dignity, safety, compassion, and making sure older adults — especially veterans and seniors with ADHD — are seen, supported, and not left to struggle in silence.

If you love a senior, work with seniors, or are a senior… this conversation matters. 💛

If you or someone you love is experiencing emotional distress or suicidal thoughts, please seek help immediately.

Small habits can save lives. 💛

In this episode, su***de prevention advocate and veteran Stephen Wright shares simple but powerful ways to reduce anxiety, overwhelm, and suicidal thoughts in seniors — especially those living with ADHD, depression, or loneliness.

✔️ Create a visible daily plan
✔️ Build structure and routine
✔️ Schedule meaningful social connection
✔️ Give purpose, not just care

For many older adults, veterans, and caregivers, these aren’t just “tips”… they’re protective lifelines. Aging shouldn’t mean feeling isolated, invisible, or hopeless — connection and structure truly matter. 🧠✨

If you love a senior, work with older adults, or support someone struggling, this conversation is worth watching. And if you need to hear it today: you matter, and help is available.

Hi all, when I started the podcast and this page, I had absolutely no idea where it would take me but I KNEW I absolutely had to start learning and getting the word out. Shortly thereafter I signed up for ADHD Coach training. The book was next. My life and understanding of ADHD was so drastically changed I knew others lives would change too. So I have to confess, social media has been one more “to do” and one that doesn’t “inspire” me. And you know what this means for an ADHD brain, if we aren’t interested in something, we have a hard time doing it consistently. With all that said, I now know exactly what I want to do and am inspired to do it. It’s going to be life changing for all of us.
We need each other. Together we will gain understanding, self acceptance and ultimately we will build a life that is easier.

Stop doing life on hard mode!

So many of us with ADHD spent decades pushing harder, masking, overworking, and wondering why life still felt exhausting — even when we were “successful.”

In this clip, Dr. Eliza Barach, a cognitive psychologist, ADHD coach, and proud ADHDer, explains why finally understanding your ADHD changes everything. Dr. Barach works with high-achieving adults who have spent years excelling on the outside while silently struggling on the inside — helping them understand their brains, regulate emotions, and build systems that actually work in real life.

When you know how your brain works, you can stop blaming yourself, create your own “life manual,” and use strategies that finally support your ADHD brain instead of fighting it.

Because ADHD isn’t about trying harder — it’s about having the right tools.

If you’ve ever thought, “Why is this so much harder for me than everyone else?"... listen to the full episode on Spotify, Apple, or YouTube.
