👯‍♂️PEER MODELS 👯‍♂️...
We love using peer models in therapy! Not only does it give us insight about how a child interacts with their peers, but it is also a wonderful opportunity for a child to learn from someone their own age.
During spring break, lots of families have been bringing siblings to speech therapy as well. We talk a lot about parent coaching, but siblings can be coached too (depending on their age of course!). You'd be surprised how much more engaged a child gets with an activity when a sibling is in the room too😮

There are lots of misconceptions about speech therapy. And well, let's be honest, we love to prove parents wrong!😉
If you have concerns about your child's speech or language skills, find a licensed speech therapist in your area. Depending on where you live, you may also qualify for speech therapy covered by your local regional center (if your child is under 3 years). So spread the word- speech therapy is FUN!

Play is much more than it seems🤫...
One of our favorite things about being speech-language pathologists is that our jobs are so much more than they appear to be. It may look like we are just on the floor with a child and having a TON of fun, but in reality, we are helping a child develop so many important skills. Research shows that children learn best through 🧸play🧸 and not to mention, it's so much fun for them too!

Can you guess what we've been into lately?!🎈...
YES- sometimes it's that simple! All you need are balloons! We do recommend a manual air pump in order to prevent spreading germs🦠 (but up to you!). And don't forget to check for latex allergies.
The options are endless with balloons because they are an open-ended activity that can be tailored to many different needs. We've listed 3 ideas for you, but let's be real, the list of activity ideas is probably endless! Let us know if you try this out!

Here's some new year ✨wisdom✨ for ya...
It is so important that families understand the impact they have on their child's speech therapy progress. Family involvement and support always plays a huge part in determining a client's prognosis. Carryover can only happen when children are practicing across settings, not just in the speech room.

We hate being the bearer of bad news...🥺😭
But it's happened before... a family changes their insurance policy and they find out that what they thought was a great plan, actually left them paying out of pocket for their child's speech therapy!🤯😤

☯️EMOTIONAL REGULATION☯️...
Emotional regulation is the ability to exert control over one's emotional state. According to the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA), emotional regulation is one of the key components needed to support social communication.
Lately we've been talking about how our brains have an "upstairs" and a "downstairs". And by learning more about our brain, we can better understand how to regulate it. Special thanks to , as well as authors of the fabulous book for inspiring us to re-think how to teach self-regulation skills to our kids.

We are all learning to become better people for our tiny humans. As parents, we strive to do what is best. All too often we hear the phrase "I wish I would have known...". But here's the thing: When we KNOW better, we DO better. There is never an easy answer for raising a tiny human. But as long as we are doing the best with what we know, then that's all that's in our control.
