mTBIs and concussions are the most common type of traumatic brain injury to occur yearly.

If you have been in a car accident, then it is highly suggested that you seek mTBI (mild traumatic brain injury) testing. Conditions may be diagnosed through mTBI testing that may not be found with other testing methods, such as MRI. While mTBI injuries are not life threatening, they can be serious and need to be diagnosed. If left undiagnosed and more mTBIs are experienced, then long-term issues may occur and prolong recovery.

An MRI exam is used to create images of the internal structures and organs with the right equipment. As listed above, there are many possible reasons to undergo an MRI exam from TBI to identify cancer. Whatever the reason, it is important to get tested.

The estimated time duration of MRI exams varies but usually lasts approximately 30 to 60 minutes. At MedStar, we use Open MRI which allows patients to have a more comfortable experience especially for those who may have claustrophobia and anxiety.
