Same crisis every year!
Yep - your kids are stuck wriggling through Algebra 2. I seem to go on this diatribe at least once a year but now during finals it seems once again to be appropriate. Only 5% of the working population of the world requires any knowledge of Algebra 2. (Georgetown Univeristy Study requested by The National Center for Education and Economy, NCEE). Why are we so antiquated that we cannot change curriculum? Your kids are in a panic - might have summer school looming and for what? All about Algebra 2, a math course that has no application to their real life? Parents, teachers, administrators . . . get with the program and change the program. Teach these kids something that actually might be of mathematical value like how to unit price at a supermarket, how to use an ATM card, how to read a recipe and cut it in half. We are not helping our kids by forcing them into the albegra torture chamber. Time for a change.
