This past weekend the Mound Westonka High School Orchestra and Band from Minnetrista, Minnesota made a special stop on their tour to perform for our residents here at Actors Fund Home. Residents were gifted quite a treat this afternoon to have illustrious author, Foster Hirsch here to discuss his latest book, "Hollywood and the Movies of the Fifties: The Collapse of the Studio System, the Thrill of Cinerama, and the Invasion of the Ultimate Body Snatcher—Television!" Albert Poland started us off with a fabulous introduction and then we were transported to 1950s Hollywood- filled with turbulence, dramatic shifts, and the demise of the studio system.

On June 12, after 10 weeks of enthusiastic participation in Alvin Ailey: AileyDance for Active Aging, our dedicated and talented residents at the Actors Fund Home got to showcase all their hard work in a culminating event. Beyond just learning the breathtaking choreography of Alvin Ailey, this program has allowed our residents to foster their sense of community, embodiment and artistic expression. With the generous support of pharmaceutical company EISAI, it was a joy to be able to collaborate with the Alvin Ailey organization once more.

Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
