Another great question came up during our event: Stitching From the Core:
“I have pain in my Coccyx during weighted squats.”
Pain at the tailbone during weighted squats can come from several sources, so I’d want to step back and look at a few key things first:
✔️Let’s confirm the source of the pain.
Are we sure this is truly the coccyx (tailbone), or could it be coming from the sacrum, SI joint, pelvic floor, or deep hip structures? Pinpointing the exact location matters before modifying loading.
✔️Does this happen with body-weight squats?
I’m curious whether the pain is present without load. If it only appears once weight is added, that gives us important information about load tolerance, pressure management, and strategy—not just strength.
✔️I’d want to assess your squat mechanics.
This includes:
How your hips, pelvis, and spine are moving through the squat
Whether you’re maintaining a neutral vs tucked pelvis at depth
✔️Your breath and pressure strategy (are you bracing, bearing down, or losing control at the bottom?)
✔️Foot position, stance width, and how force is traveling through the system
Pain at the coccyx during loaded squats often isn’t a “tailbone problem” alone—it can reflect how load, pressure, and pelvic mechanics are interacting under demand.
