Our 4th year audiology extern is very innovated and is changing audiology one listening tube at a time! Great job Laura! This is her post below....
Hi everyone!
For any of those who have been asked about how someone with hearing loss would do a listening check, whether be someone wanting to listen to their child's hearing aid, teachers of the deaf, other audiologists, audiology students, etc. - please read below! This can be used for those who use cochlear implants and hearing aids!
I posted this on the audiologists with hearing loss page, but a few people had recommended I post this here too!
For those of us who have a hearing loss, listening checks can be a struggle. I had been trying jury rig a FM system, pocket talker, and lapel mic for a listening check in the past, but the sound quality was not great. I worked with an earmold manufacturer to make a custom attachable listening tube for my N7 cochlear implant processor. They were great with this and made me a custom one! The sound quality is much better since it's not going through a second amplifier! It sounds much more natural and I don't hear as much electronic noise other than the actual hearing aid!
I talked with the person who made my custom listening piece there about if anyone else would want to get one as well! He is willing to and has made a few already for other audiologists! If you're interested let us know.
This really would be ideal anyone who uses a hearing aid or cochlear implant that does listening checks (audiologists, audiology students, some SLPs, other hearing aid dispensers, parents of children who also have hearing loss, teachers of the deaf, etc).
