THIS PRINCIPAL TOOK A BULLET STOPPING AN ARMED GUNMAN AT HIS SCHOOL. DAYS LATER, HIS STUDENTS GAVE HIM THE ONLY THANK YOU THAT MATTERED.

Principal Kirk Moore of Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma was shot in the leg after charging out of his office and tackling an armed man who had walked into the school lobby carrying two semiautomatic handguns. Security footage captured the moment. No other students or staff were injured in the incident.

Moore was hospitalized for his gunshot wound but told reporters he was healthy and recovering and looked forward to returning to work. In a statement, he credited years of active shooter training for his response, and thanked the community for the outpouring of support.

Then came prom. Moore walked through the doors and the students erupted. They had voted him Prom King. Viral video showed him getting the crown placed on his head as the room went absolutely wild around him — a gym full of teenagers letting their principal know exactly how they felt.

Pauls Valley Police Chief Don May said there was not a doubt in his mind that Moore saved kids' lives that day. Thirty-five years in education, and this is the chapter his students will never forget.
