Solas Counseling: Healing Through Horses, LLC

Solas Counseling: Healing Through Horses, LLC Solas Counseling is committed to working toward healing the whole person in a holistic way through being in relationship with horses and the natural world.

Solas Counseling: Healing Through Horses, LLC was founded in February 2017 by Courtney McCall and her two horses, Solas and Ruaidh. Courtney graduated in 2016 from Regis University magna cm laude with an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, then went on to receive a certificate in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy/Equine-Assisted Learning. She also has additional training in play therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy. Courtney developed her practice with the goal to approach problems holistically, and to help clients connect mind, body, and spirit in order to maximize healing. Courtney has been practicing animal-assisted (primarily equine-assisted) psychotherapy for the last 14 months with clients aged 6-45 years, who suffer from trauma, anxiety, depression, attachment, low self-esteem, and sensory issues. Her primary passion is working with clients that are working through PTSD. Courtney's main theoretical approaches include Gestalt, Person-Centered, Depth (Jungian), Solution-Focused, and Narrative traditions. These theories are often combined to provide well-rounded interventions that address the whole person in a creative way.

In psychotherapy sessions with horses, mental health facilitation teams help clients process patterns of thoughts, beliefs and behaviors that arise during experiences with horses, and help them apply those learnings to their personal lives.

Each session is designed with a focus on treatment goals or learning objectives that support client progress.

Mental health services and programs involving horses have innumerable benefits and can be extremely beneficial for various psychotherapeutic needs. Interacting with horses helps people to receive emotional support, become more in touch with their feelings and learn practical interpersonal and communication skills.

Some people find it difficult to articulate their feelings verbally. However, many clients find it easier to identify and express feelings when in the presence of horses. Horses hold space in a safe way that can help clients release feelings that have been stuck or unacknowledged.

With the support of mental health professionals and equine facilitators, personal feelings, beliefs and narratives come to light so healing and change can begin.

"When we are around horses, we will more often experience moments where our thoughts are silent - free from any problems or worries. We can borrow their eyes and ears and look at our surroundings in a different and multisensory way. They show us the beauty of what’s happening right now and help us to experience the moment as it is unfolding. Horses can assist us in recognizing the beauty of the simple act: 'To Be Present Together.'"

📢It’s 🌎

🎁 An opportunity to share kindness all around the world💚

~~~~~~~~~
At times like this when the world feels upside down,
kindness can be the key to turning things around
You see, kindness has the power to create community, support and hope.
A helping hand says your not alone when you face that upwards slope
Of course, being kind is always the right thing to do
But did you know that doing good is also good for you?
You see a little act of kindness can boost your mental health
It can lower stress and cheer your mood to think of someone else
And of course, don’t forget to be kind to yourself
It doesn’t have to take a lot, ‘cause even the smallest spark
Can be the thing to light the way when someone’s world feels dark
So, make that call, share that gif, send some happy post
And this World Mental Health Day 🌎
Remember kindness matters most! 💚
Horses are extremely sensitive to human emotions and are able to pick up on our subtlest feelings to help us uncover emotional blind spots.
