This , learn how our Therapy Department at the LECOM Institute for Successful Living has helped Gabe Brown. After a devastating accident just hours into his honeymoon in September 2024, Erie resident Gabe Brown suffered a severe traumatic brain injury that left him in a coma for over three months. He was told many things may never be possible again, but our therapy department now has him standing, chewing, doing exercises to move his legs, and communicating with a Tobii Dynavox machine—and that’s just the beginning.

We look forward to reaching many more milestones with Gabe. 💙✨

After a devastating accident just hours into his honeymoon in September 2024, Erie resident Gabe Brown suffered a severe traumatic brain injury that left him in a coma for over three months. Against all odds, Gabe is now on the road to recovery and does his rehabilitation at the LECOM Senior Living Center, where the therapy team works with him every day to regain movement and relearn skills like chewing. His journey is a powerful reminder of resilience, love, and the strength of the human spirit as he continues to make meaningful progress.

Gabe provided heartfelt feedback about his journey in the last year with the LECOM Institute for Successful Living using his Tobii Dynavox eye gaze device, a type of assistive communication technology that lets someone control a computer—and even “talk”—using only their eyes. We also spoke with Gabe’s wife, Lauren, about their commitment to never giving up, continuing to push forward, no matter the obstacles.

We appreciate Gabe and Lauren's trust in the LECOM Institute for Successful Living and we are honored to work with him daily.
