I’m saying this with the utmost respect and love to all my Orton-Gillingham trained peeps out there. There is no ONE progression. Why? Because there are several different O-G training organizations. Depending on who trained you, you may have been given a suggested order to follow. I get asked WHY isn’t there just one progression we can all follow?! Here’s the bigger reason. 🤔Think about the approach. Orton-Gillingham educators are trained to be flexible, prescriptive and diagnostic. If we all follow one progression lockstep, those principles are lost. A progression is a suggested guide, but it isn’t set in stone. So, while some may think it would be more convenient, I’m glad there isn’t just one progression. 😉
One more quick point! Another SUPER important principle of O-G is the freedom and importance of being flexible for the sake of the student. If you feel like you have to be locked into one progression for every child you service, please take some time to reflect. It’s about the students and their needs.
