Chiropractic Adjustments Can Help With TMJ Disorders
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders affect the joint that connects the jaw to the skull, often causing jaw pain, clicking or popping, headaches, facial tension, neck pain, and difficulty chewing. While dentistry and physical therapy are common approaches, chiropractic care can also play a supportive role in managing TMJ symptoms, especially when jaw issues are connected to posture, spinal alignment, and muscle tension.
The TMJ does not function in isolation. It works closely with the muscles of the face, neck, and upper back, and it is influenced by the alignment of the cervical spine (neck). Poor posture, head-forward positioning, whiplash injuries, or spinal misalignments can place extra stress on the jaw joint and surrounding muscles. Over time, this imbalance may contribute to TMJ pain and dysfunction.
