This week is Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week! Congenital heart defects are the most common birth defects, impacting many Michigan families. This week is to raise awareness of these conditions, promote prevention, and uplift those affected.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) still recommend that all kids get certain vaccines at specific ages—when they work best to provide protection. Even with changes to federal guidelines, parents can still follow the AAP’s schedule, and most vaccines are still covered by insurance.
