I love this post from Karen Griffard Putz. Keeping it simple!!
Many years ago, one of our investment club members recommended investing in a company called Netflix. He was getting DVDs sent to him through the mail. He talked about how this was the future of movies.
We couldn't wrap our minds around that idea. We were still getting in the car, driving through snow to the nearest Blockbuster, waiting in long lines, to shell out a good chunk of money.
Apparently Blockbuster figured we'd always want to do that.
Fast forward to today:
Sit down in the chair, pick up the remote, select a movie. Enjoy.
The same digital disruption has happened in the card and gift industry.
When I want a card, I click on my SendOutCards app, select a photo from my phone, write a personal message (with my handwriting), select a gift, and hit "send."
Bam. Less than 30 seconds.
(Unless I take longer to scroll through the gift catalog.)
My card (less than $2) gets printed, addressed, and in the mail--along with the gift--within 24 hours.
I can't remember the last time I went to a store and shelled out $4.99 for a card that didn't quite say what I wanted.
Oh, and the best part...because the card I created usually has a personal picture on it, it touches others in a way that the brick and mortar company just can't quite do.
And... that brick and mortar card company doesn't send ME a check every month.
The digital revolution is here to stay.
