Doing family research before a certain period in the US there is a gap in documents. In 1840 there was a fire in the census office. Sadly the 1840 census was completely destroyed. The land grant record, and wills are not 100% accurate. Also, many people named their children common names; Abraham, John, William, and Joseph and some most popular in my family. In researching there is also the fact that a name can be changed by simply interpreting what they are reading. So for example my family is Hunsaker, I have found them spelled Huntseeker, Hunsiker, and about 15 other version. This makes finding land grants and forms a bit harder. This is the first map of York Pennsylvania my family settled in the beginning with other Mennonite/Dunkards to the Cordorus River. This was a branch of the Ohio River and a main foot path of Indians hunting grounds.

I haven’t updated in sometime. I have been deep in Pennsylvanian history. As this all befan for me it was to get to an end goal of certification. As my two research assistance advisors, book editor, and myself. The Hunsaker family although simple beginnings of Mennonite Farmers to a quest. Almost all points to the fact we are decedents of Hartmann Hunsaker. I have discovered a brothers name change to Honsaker, one is listed as Hunsthaker. This changes the amount of decedents first imagined. So I am actually going back to Johannes Hunsaker of Jonesboro ILlinois and building from this area. Internet is my friend thank goodness.

I’m reaching out to all the family, I recently received an inquiry into Sarah Va**um Hunsaker Trimmer. Please send me a DM if you are a Trimmer or know some of her story. I’m trying to confirm information and we put it into the corrected history. There are so many documents and papers written so they have to match with what we as the descendants have.
