Common Problems in the Workplace

From laborers whose work requires heavy lifting to office workers who find themselves in front of a computer all day, pain is a common problem. Carpal tunnel syndrome and low-back pain and stiffness are two of the most prevalent issues workers face, and overuse and overexertion are often the root causes. Poor posture can also lead to pain in the shoulder, neck and back.

How massage can help. Massage can help reduce some postural imbalances, as well as relieve inflammation and nerve entrapment.

Massage Therapy has been shown to help with a wide range of chronic conditions and is a potent alternative to opioids for pain management. To see how patient driven demand for Massage Therapy is turning the tide on the war against opioid addiction, here is a fascinating article about Massage Therapy for Pain Management.

A major take away from the article is that earlier this year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which wrote to all Medicare Advantage programs encouraging them to cover massage therapy as part of their non-opioid pain management supplemental benefits recommendations for 2020.

While we can never know what the future holds, one can easily see where the winds are blowing. The future looks bright for massage therapy and alternative/ integrative approaches to therapy for at need populations in America.

The opioid epidemic makes integrative therapies like massage therapy a necessary part of treating pain.
