Hello Eugene!! 👋 We’re Devon and Nico, the couple behind Cardboard Battlegrounds!
📍977 Garfield St. Eugene, OR 97402 (next to rumors salon and fusion burger!)
We are both late diagnosed autistic adults who spent years in “good" but unfulfilling careers. Nico worked nearly a decade in pharmacy and Devon worked in tech/cyber security. They were stable and respected jobs… but they weren’t sustainable for us.
Even with accommodations, traditional work environments can be incredibly difficult to navigate as neurodivergent people. Burnout, masking, and feeling like we didn’t quite fit in anywhere became our norm. So we made a big/scary but very intentional decision... take a huge chance and choose our happiness, health, and community over staying comfortable but unfulfilled.
Cardboard Battlegrounds was born from that choice.
Our goal isn’t just to be another card or hobby shop. We want to be:
꩜A safe and welcoming space for neurodivergent folks, people of all ages who enjoy TCG's, collecting and creating, and anyone who’s ever felt out of place (despite the state of our country and world, we thought that was even more of a reason to create this safe space)
꩜A shop that’s open all day, 6 days a week, so all kinds of people actually have access to the space (We have an ADA bathroom and are located right behind a bus stop as well!)
꩜A community hub, not just a storefront
We host and plan to expand:
꩜Pokemon, Magic, and other TCG games & tournaments
꩜DND campaigns and tabletop nights
꩜Private rooms available for rent (Nico can even create props or themed rooms to fit your campaigns)
꩜Handmade art by Nico (maybe other local artists too in the future!)
꩜Community events like painting classes, craft nights, and even TCG learning for all ages
This shop exists because Dev poured an incredible amount of time, energy, money, love, and vision into making it real. This was his idea and he’s building it with the intention of creating a longterm, sustainable career for both of us, one where we can make our own accommodations and finally work in a way that supports our nervous systems instead of fighting them.
At the heart of it all, Cardboard Battlegrounds is about finding where we fit in the world, creating space for others to do the same, and giving back to our community when we can.
If you’re into cards, games, art, creativity, or just want a place that feels safe to exist as yourself, we’re really glad you found us.🖤
We are building this business from the ground up so feel free to stop by and check out our progress too!
