The first day of Spring calls for deep cleaning your home but don't forget about your medicine cabinet. We wanted to share some tips and tricks to determining if something is needed to be discarded or not. Always aim to throw away medications in a safe and responsible way by finding your local drug take-back site. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) hosts National Prescription Drug-Take Back Events periodically devoted to providing an opportunity for people to discard their unused medications. DEA Take-Back Day is April 25th, 2026.

Immunization serves as a safe and effective strategy, offering optimal protection against respiratory viruses. If you live or work with individuals who are at higher risk—such as older adults, young children, or those with chronic health conditions—this year’s flu and COVID 19 vaccines provide crucial safeguards.
By getting vaccinated, you not only protect yourself but also those around you.

American Hearth Month is the perfect time to check your lifestyle and personal habits to ensure you are taking the steps to prevent heart disease. We want to share some everyday tips to encourage a healthy heart.

1. Keep an eye on your diet. Limit your intake of saturated fat like high-fat dairy, fatty meat, and processed foods and aim to increase fiber with fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

2. 30 minutes of physical exercise five days out of the week can make a BIG impact on your health. Consistent regular walking can lower the risk of coronary artery disease by 19%.

3. Believe it or not, 7-9 hours of quality sleep supports heart health. New research shows that people who suffer from insomnia are 69% more likely to have a heart attack compared to those without insomnia, occurring more often in women. Speak to your health care provider if you are having difficulty sleeping.

4. Talk to your doctor about sudden changes or recent pain. Don't forget to stay up to date on routine screening test.

This Black History Month we want to take a moment to recognize and highlight three women and their legacy in pharmacy.
Dr. Julia Hughes was the first Black woman to own and operate a pharmacy in Philadelphia, possibly the entire U.S., opening Hughes Pharmacy in 1899. She graduated from Howard University in 1897 and completed postgraduate work at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. She managed the hospital pharmacy at Frederick Douglas Hospital. Dr. Coleman also became a political activist and was one of the first Black women to run for political office.
Anna Louise James was the first female Black pharmacist in New York, graduating from the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy in 1908. She worked for her brother-in-law, Peter Lane, at his Old Saybrook pharmacy before taking over in 1917.
Amanda Victoria Brown (Gray Hilyer), was the first Black woman to own a pharmacy in Washington, D.C. She graduated from the Howard University School of Pharmacy in 1903 and worked as a pharmacist at the Woman’s Clinic in D.C., becoming a significant figure for Black women in pharmacy.

Today, we stand in solidarity with fighters, honor survivors, and support caregivers. From all of us here at Broadway, we are sending strength and health to every person impacted by cancer.
The most powerful tool against cancer is early detection, don't delay important screening and signs.
We would also like to highlight compounded Low Dose Naltrexone, and its possible benefit in cancer research.
