The waiting can feel endless when you are past your due date. Every hour stretches your patience, your body, and your heart.

This season is not wasted time. It is quiet preparation. Your baby is still finding their way, and your body is still doing important work.

Slow down where you can. Rest often. Let yourself be cared for.

These last days matter, even when they are hard.

You are not behind. You are not doing anything wrong. You are exactly where you need to be.

As the weather turns colder, here’s your friendly winter safety reminder from Avocado Doulas ❄️💚

Puffy coats and car seats don’t mix.

We know those big cozy jackets look warm and feel convenient, especially when you are wrangling a toddler who refuses to keep their socks on. But in a crash, all that fluff compresses which leaves the harness far looser than it seems. And loose straps mean your little one isn’t as protected as they should be.

The safer way:
Buckle your baby or toddler in snugly without the coat, then place the jacket or a warm blanket over the harness. It keeps them warm and keeps them safe. You could also consider leaving baby’s jacket in the car to help make getting out the door easier this winter.

It’s a tiny extra step, but it makes a huge difference. Let’s keep our babies protected, cozy, and winter ready this season. 🌿❄️💛

🍂 The Day After Thanksgiving: Slow, Sweet, and Full of Gratitude 🍂

Whether you spent yesterday welcoming a baby earthside, waddling your way to the dinner table, or savoring those first cozy newborn snuggles, today is your reminder to slow down.

The day after a big holiday can feel like a lot: extra dishes, extra noise, extra family energy…but your body and your baby need gentleness.

✨ Take today to:
• Rest your feet & put them UP! Doctor’s orders!😉
• Reheat leftovers instead of overdoing it
• Snuggle in with your bump or your baby
• Let your partner or family take the lead
• Honor the pace your body is asking for

Your doula is here to help you navigate this season with calm, protection, and confidence…from crowded gatherings to cold-season worries to finding moments of quiet in the middle of it all.

You’re doing beautifully. And today? We hope someone brings you a plate of pie. 🥧

✨ What to Expect Giving Birth During Thanksgiving Week at Riverbend + McKenzie Willamette ✨

Planning to welcome your little one during Thanksgiving week? 🦃🍁 Here’s what to expect at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Riverbend or McKenzie Willamette plus how Avocado Doulas can help keep things calm and supported.

🏥 Holiday Staffing Patterns
Hospitals run 24/7, but holiday staffing may look different. You might notice:
• Slightly longer wait times for non-emergent needs
• Fewer scheduled inductions/procedures
• A quieter, more relaxed unit overall

👨‍👩‍👧 Support Person Essentials
Family in town can add pressure, remember, you choose your birth space. Typically:
• Riverbend allows 4 support people + a doula
• McKenzie Willamette doesn’t usually limit room numbers
• You can switch support people as needed
Holiday + flu-season guidelines can shift, so check before heading in.

🍂 The Holiday Vibe
Thanksgiving births can feel extra sweet:
• Festive nurses’ stations
• Warm, joyful energy
• Staff excited to welcome holiday babies
• A peaceful overnight pace

🦃 Food + Amenities
Pack snacks for comfort during labor. Holiday schedules can affect:
• Cafeteria hours
• Room-service timing
• Nearby restaurants being closed

• 24/7 labor support
• Help navigating staff changes + communication
• A calm, grounded birth environment

🌿 Avocado Doulas is Growing With Our Community 🌿

We believe every family deserves equitable, culturally informed, and accessible care that meets them where they are, honors their identity, and supports their journey through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

As we continue to listen to the needs of our community, we recognize an important opportunity to better support Spanish-speaking families. With that in mind, we’re exploring adding a Spanish-speaking doula to our team.

If you or someone you know is a bilingual doula (or doula-in-training) who is passionate about inclusive, heart-centered support, we’d love to hear from you. 💚

🥑 Client Testimonial Spotlight 🥑

“We had a great experience with Avocado Doulas. We first met with Rachel and felt right at home with her approach to supporting us during labor. However, there was a chance she would be out of town during our birth and so we were grateful to meet with Quinn and have her as backup.

As luck would have it, we went into labor on the day Rachel was headed out of town. She supported us for the first three hours at the birth center, and then Quinn seamlessly transitioned in. Quinn was then an absolute rock star as we labored an additional 12 hours at the birth center before transferring to the hospital. Then we labored another 13 hours at the hospital before having a C Section. Not the plan at all, but Quinn was so incredibly supportive along the way.

Both my husband and I are incredibly grateful for her presence during a long and challenging birth process. Finally, both Rachel and Quinn were excellent resources for us both pre and postpartum. We highly recommend them!”

💚 Insurance Made Simple 💚

At Avocado Doulas, we believe that everyone deserves access to supportive, compassionate care, and that includes help navigating insurance.

We currently bill Medicaid/OHP (Trillium, PacificSource and Open Card) as well as PEBB (Providence and Moda) for doula services. We’re also happy to work with private insurance plans (coverage can vary, so be sure to check with your provider!).

Not using insurance? No problem. We offer flexible payment plans and gift certificates to make care more accessible for every family.

Whether you’re planning your birth, preparing for postpartum, or just starting to explore your options, we’ll meet you where you are with ease, empathy, and support.

✨October babies carry a touch of magic.👻

From ancient folklore to modern research, there’s something special about those born under the autumn moon. 🌕

They’re rare arrivals, often born with stories whispered through generations. Charming, curious, and natural leaders, October-born little ones remind us that every birth is a season of transformation. 🍂

Whether your baby arrives on Halloween or any day this fall, we’re here to hold space for the mystery, the beauty, and the new beginnings that come with it. 💛

🌻 One Month of Sunshine 🌻

🍂 As the leaves turn and the air cools, we’re reminded that every season brings its own kind of change. For new parents, fall can be both beautiful and tender. It’s a time of cozy snuggles, but also quiet moments of adjustment.

The shorter days, the slower pace, the shift in rhythm can make postpartum feel heavier at times. If you’re feeling a little lost in the mix of emotions, you’re not alone. Healing, learning, and bonding all take time.

Whether your days are filled with baby giggles or gentle tears, remember that support is here when you need it. Our doulas walk beside you through every season of parenthood, reminding you that even as the world cools, love keeps growing warm. 🌻

🍂 Fall Nourishment 🍁

As the air turns crisp and leaves begin to change, so do our rhythms — in life, in nourishment, and sometimes even in birth plans.

Whether your care environment shifts or your timeline takes an unexpected turn, your doula remains the constant. We walk with you through every season — from nourishing prenatal visits to labor, birth, and the postpartum days of healing and bonding.

This week, we’re sharing fall food choices for pregnancy, postpartum, and baby — comforting, grounding options to warm your body and spirit through this season of change. 🥣

You don’t navigate this season, or any season, alone. 💛

Who is this doula Rachel?

I had the opportunity to sit down with Go Mom Go Podcast this month and talk about myself as a mom, business owner, and stellar doula provider in Lane County, Oregon. Take a listen and get a feel for who I am, how I work, and why you need me as part of your birth team!
