Winter Running Safety Reminder
Winter conditions can make local paths slick, especially in shaded or riverfront areas. Zachary Brooks, DPM, Foot and Ankle Surgeon with Oregon Medical Group, encourages runners to take a few extra precautions during winter training.
Tips for safer winter running:
• Shorten your stride to improve traction
• Watch for black ice in shaded areas
• Use traction devices when available
• Choose a treadmill or indoor cross-training if conditions feel unsafe
