Picky eating can feel like a whole thing.

One day they love something… next day it’s suddenly “yucky.”
You try not to make it a battle, but also… they need to eat, right? 😅

Here’s something we love: it doesn’t always have to start with taking a bite.

Our OT Maddie turned snack time into playwith dinosaurs stomping through “mud” (peanut butter + Nutella) and eating leaves off trees (fruit leather). It's a great way to build confort with new foods.

No pressure to eat it. Just touching it, playing with it, getting used to it.

That’s often the first step. And honestly, it works.😉

Play is where the magic happens in speech therapy. 💬✨💜
Here are a few of our SLPs’ favorite toys that build speech and language skills while kids are just having fun.

PLAYDOUGH
Great for smashing speech sound goals, labeling colors and shapes, answering WH questions, telling stories, and building creativity together.

BALLOON CAR LAUNCHER
Perfect for practicing early words like go, pop, vroom, building longer phrases (I want more!), and learning concepts like up/down, fast/slow, big/small.

PLAY FOOD
Pretend play opens the door for so much language like naming foods, describing taste and texture, asking questions, sorting categories, and practicing everyday conversation.

HAMBURGER STACKER
Stack, spin, and build while practicing colors, early words (on, off, go), sequencing (first, next), and even taking a friend’s burger order!

Play might look simple… but it’s doing big work for communication skills. 🟣🔵🟢

Easter egg hunt… but make it skill-building fun 🐣✨

The best part?
They just think it’s a game 😉

Save this for your Easter weekend + give it a try!

Meet Phoebe! 👋
Phoebe is joining our team as a PT fieldwork student, completing her placement alongside PT Judy here at Connect the Dots. She's coming to us from Pacific University and is already hitting the ground running; bringing energy, curiosity, and a whole lot of heart to her work with our kids and families.
We love welcoming students who get it🟣🔵🟢 the importance of play, collaboration, and keeping families at the center of everything we do. Phoebe is already fitting right in. Give her a big CTD welcome when you see her around the clinic! 🙌

Switch toys are all about making play accessible, empowering, and fun!

They’re toys that can be activated with a simple button (a “switch”), so kids can play, explore, and interact with their environment, no complex movements required.
