The foundation of curanderismo is to not just treat an illness, but also to look at how and from where it manifested in the emotional body. At Spirit Medicines we are here to try to treat problems by looking for the cause. The first step is looking within oneself and talking about it; which is traditionally called a Platica. A platica is a heart to heart talk or counselling of sorts. The safe space allows one to go within their own soul, remember, and find their own solutions. Here at Spirit Medicines, we hold that space to allow one to remember but as well we share our own intuitive findings that our ancestral guides share with us.

In curanderismo many different types of medicine tools are used to work on the body and clear it of of negativity. If negative emotions are felt over lengths of time, they can manifest into physical health problems. Often we are unaware of the fear, rejection, negativity, or trauma. An event may have passed when we were a child or even at birth that triggered it. And we learn as humans to hide away these emotions, to not deal with them. They can be literally tucked away into secret locations within our memory, thus to not look at. Yet as said, over time negative emotions manifest into real health problems.

Limpias are a real solution to healing your body, mind, & spirit. It is an indigenous folk healing method that comes from Latin America. In western terms it is a spiritual energetic cleanse or in Native American’s of the North (States/Canada) it is a smudge down. Yet limpias use certain medicine tools to heal.

En términos occidentales es una limpieza energética espiritual o en los nativos americanos del norte (Estados / Canadá) es una mancha. At Spirit Medicines we have many offerings from the world of Curanderismo. Healings include Limpias, Spirit Medicine Healings (a very in depth limpia), Mayan Fire Ceremonies, & Tz’ite Divinations/Consulations. As well a women’s class series, 9 Moon’s that’s offered also stems from curanderismo.

At Spirit Medicines we believe all healing begins outdoors and with ones re-connection to nature, our mother earth. Our sacred space is mostly outdoors one with the elements. It also consists of a healing yurt studio, tiny home office/kitchen, and ceremonial tipi. All ceremonies are held outside. Classes & Healings are led inside a tipi or yurt, as these indigenous round structures hold power and maintain a connection to the outdoors.

Xochi Quetzalli has created Spirit Medicines as a sacred space to be used for ceremony, classes, and healings. Her K’iche Mayan Grandmothers/Teachers Nana Tomasa and Nana Sebastiana are visiting healers to Spirit Medicines and come once a year to share teachings with the community of Humboldt.

Xochiketzalli or Xochi for short, is a young initiated Aj’Qij’ (Mayan Daykeeper). She met her teachers Nana Tomasa & her daughter Nana Sebastiana in 2012 and was initiated to the same path in 2015. She is of mixed ancestry, Native California Indian, Mexican, & European. She works with Nations all over the States, Canada, Mexico, & Guatemala. Her lifelong commitments to her dances, Sundance and Moondance for the past decade have shaped her at a young age and brought her to this path. She has worked in ceremony with many nations all over Turtle Island and walks the Good Red Road.
Xochiketzalli o Xochi para abreviar, es un joven iniciado Aj’Qij ’(Guia del tiempo). Conoció a sus maestros Nana Tomasa y su hija Nana Sebastiana en 2012 y se inició en el mismo camino en 2015. She is the founder of Spirit Medicines Centro de Sanacion and has also created the website www.xochiketzalli.com . She is closed January and February but offers ceremony, classes, and healings March - December. Her abuelas visit once a year to Humboldt County but also have their healing center in Chichicastengo, Guatemala.
