Jack Po***ck

Monroe Jackson “Jack” Po***ck, 87, whose pockets were always full of handmade trinkets and whose heart was always full of family, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Fredonia Regional Hospital.

Born on February 24, 1939, in Elkins, Arkansas, Jack was the son of Silas and Violet (Davis) Po***ck. His family moved to Kansas in the mid-1950s, where he grew up in the Elkins and Andover areas, eventually graduating from Andover High School. Following high school, Jack served his country in the Army National Guard. In 1960, he married Lillian Koop, with whom he shared three children. They raised their family in Wichita before later divorcing. A man of immense drive, Jack trained as a master electrician and established his own successful business, Po***ck Electric, in Wichita. In 1992, Jack married Jeanne Lou McNamee, blending their families into one. They lived in Wichita for many years before enjoying their retirement together in Fall River.

True to his name, Jack was a master of many crafts who found joy in the work of his hands. While he made his living as an electrician, his true passion lay in creation. Whether it was carpentry, intricate woodworking, or playing the bagpipes, he was always in the middle of a project. He was known for fabricating his own replacement parts for any broken machine, if a part didn't exist, he simply made it out of wood or steel. Perhaps his most cherished hobby was making small gifts; he crafted dominoes, dice, and earrings, often keeping several pairs of handmade earrings in his pocket just to give away to friends and strangers alike. Jack was a dedicated Mason during his years in Wichita and an active member of the Midian Shrine, where he shared his love of music in the Shrine band. Above all his accomplishments, his greatest joy was the time he spent surrounded by his large, loving family.

Jack is survived by his wife, Jeanne; his children, Jeana and husband, John Rankin of Wichita; and Jamie and wife, Lisa Po***ck of San Antonio, TX; his step-children, Aaron and wife, Nikki Miller of Wichita; and Grant and wife, Brandy Miller of Frisco, TX; five grandchildren, Ian, MacKenzie, Jessica, Carter, and Audrey; and two great-grandchildren, Emmie and Ella. He also leaves behind two sisters, Rosie Tuck and Liz Kelley, both of Fayetteville, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Eric Po***ck, and three siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the Severy Baptist Church in Severy, Kansas, with Pastor Tony Pameticky officiating. Interment will follow at Whitehall Bay Cemetery in Fall River.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Severy Baptist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which is overseeing all arrangements. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at koupfunerals.com.

Martha Jean Greenwood

Martha Jean Greenwood, a longtime resident of Eureka, Kansas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on Friday evening, April 17, 2026, at Overland Park Regional Hospital at the age of 93.

Martha was born in Augusta, Kansas, on September 30, 1932, the youngest child of Oscar and Maude (Boydston) Brenton. She was later raised and educated in the Teterville and Leon areas.

On December 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Billie Greenwood. They first met on a blind date, and he remained the love of her life. They made their home in Eureka, Kansas, where they raised three daughters: Linda, Jane, and Susan.

As her children grew, Martha served as a childcare provider for many years before joining the Eureka school district. She provided delicious meals for the children of the Headstart program, where she cared for others in the same quiet, nurturing way she cared for her own family. Whether it was a hungry student at Headstart or a grandchild at her kitchen table, no one ever left Martha’s presence with an empty stomach or a heavy heart. Martha and Bill shared a love story for the ages, spanning 66 years until Bill’s passing in February 2015.

She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka. Martha and Bill rarely missed a moment, whether it was a sporting event, music program, or a simple sleepover request. Her presence was a constant source of comfort, encouragement, and joy. Her legacy lives on in the quiet kindness she modeled and the generations of children she helped raise.

Martha is survived by her daughters: Linda and husband, Mike McClintick of Eureka; Jane and husband, Mike O'Connor of Emporia; and Susan and husband, Joe Sommer of Kansas City, Kansas; ten grandchildren: Billy, Amy, Scott, Chad, Patrick, Matthew, Sara, Anna, Erin, and Kyle; ten great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Wanda Girard; one brother-in-law, Lonnie Lorance; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, her sister, Mary Jane Brenton, and her brother, James Brenton.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church of Eureka. Cremation has been effected. A private family inurnment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka. The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00 P.M. to 1:45 in the fellowship hall at the church before the service.

Michael "Mike" Mehegan

Michael John "Mike" Mehegan, a man known as much for his unwavering faith as his impressive physical strength, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at his home in Eureka at the age of 72.

Born on November 4, 1953, in Long Beach, California, Mike was the son of James Vincent and Earlene (Rushton) Mehegan. After graduating from Lakewood High School, he worked in Colorado before eventually settling in Eureka. In 1999, Mike began his career with the Eureka City Water Works. Through hard work and dedication, he rose to the position of plant operator, a role he held with pride until his passing.

Mike was a powerhouse of discipline, both in spirit and body. A fixture at "The Gym," he was often found pushing his physical limits, maintaining the strength and physique of a much younger man. This same dedication translated to his spiritual life; he was a deeply spiritual man and a pillar of the Eureka Seventh-day Adventist Church. In his quieter moments, he enjoyed the precision of mowing his lawn, as well as other people’s, and was an avid collector of vintage trucks. He leaves behind a legacy of love amongst his family and all his friends.

He is survived by his parents: James Mehegan of Anaheim, California, and Earlene DeVoe of Eureka; his siblings: Margaret “Maggie” Bautista of Eureka; Erlinda “Squeak” Blackman of Eureka; Julie and husband, Warren Robbins of Eureka; and Bill and wife, Dawn DeVoe of Holly Springs, North Carolina; eight nieces and nephews: Robert Herman, Lynn Olson, Shad Blackman, Tina Campbell, Levi Vinson, Christian DeVoe, Dane DeVoe, and Clare Harvey; seven great-nieces; one great-nephew; and numerous cousins and extended family.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Eureka Seventh-day Adventist Church, with Pastor Francois Erasmus officiating. Cremation has been effected. A private family inurnment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Eureka Seventh-day Adventist Church or to the American Heart Association. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045. Condolences may be left for the family online at koupfunerals.com.

Bobby Dean Coe

Bobby Dean Coe, Jr., 70, of Hamilton, took his final ride on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family. Known in his younger years for a rebellious spirit and a love for the fast lane, Bobby lived life on his own terms from the very beginning.

He was born December 1, 1955, in Sedan, the son of Bobby Dean, Sr. and Nona Marie (Hall) Coe. He was raised in Sedan and attended local schools. Following his schooling, he entered the workforce and later earned his G.E.D.

In 1973, Bobby married Sandy Oliver, and to this union, a daughter was born. This marriage later ended in divorce. On May 9, 1994, Bobby was united in marriage to Christina “Chris” Fletcher in Hamilton. Together, they raised four children and later welcomed Hannah into the fold.

He was a bit of a wild child in his younger days. Partying, riding his Harley, and going fast were his idea of a good life. He was an avid noodler and, above all, loved his family. Though his health declined over the years and slowed him down, he always tried to remain involved in family dinners, “just because” gatherings, and his grandchildren’s lives. He possessed an amazing sense of humor and, although he was old-fashioned, he tried to understand today’s world, make amends where he could, and help anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife, Christina of Hamilton; five children: Shannon Fehrenbach of Ness City, Rebecca Coe of Potwin, Bobby Coe of Beaumont, Jessie Coe of Halstead, and Hannah Boyd of Wichita; twelve grandchildren: Keegan, Joseph, Cruz, Cash, Hadley, Chevy, Cetch, Macyn, Chaz, Bentlee, Emersyn, and Indie; a brother, David Coe of Hamilton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jack Edward Coe; two grandsons, Jacksyn and Kingslee; one brother, Norman Dale Coe; and one nephew, Norman Dale Coe.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Koup Family Funeral, Home, Eureka, with Mr. Judd Everitt officiating. Interment will follow at Janesville Cemetery, Hamilton. Visitation hours are set for 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Koup Family Funeral Home to assist with expenses. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045.

Raymond Lahar

Raymond Eugene Lahar, age 78, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, in Wichita, soaring high with the eagles from heaven.

Raymond was born on September 4, 1947, in Eureka, Kansas. He was the second child born of Clarence Raymond “Jack” and Margaret Rae (Thompson) Lahar. He attended public schools in Eureka and El Dorado. He completed the automotive technician program at Butler Community College. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing and helping his grandfather Cecil Thompson in the fields and irritating his older sister Almeta Rae. Many stories have been heard about the numerous “pets,” animals, and wildlife Raymond would bring home that his mom would allow or find in the house.

Raymond roughnecked in the oilfields and overcame his fear of heights while climbing the rigs. His most lively memories growing up almost always involved some sort of motorized car, scooter or cycle and his friends, Mike and Ted Larcom and his cousin Billy Gene Lahar, who remained close until his passing December 2016. Raymond married his high school sweetheart Arzella Rae “Zip” Slead on April 22, 1967. He was blessed with two daughters, Lynetta Rae and Pamela Michele with Zip. They raised their family in Great Bend, KS. After working on the rigs, Raymond was employed by Gibson, Titus, & Stafford. Over the course of employment, he also worked at Straub International, Southwest Truck Parts and Abercrombie, Inc.

Raymond opened his own Diesel Automotive Business, known as Lahar’s Drive Train Specialties in the mid-1980s, after operating it out of his garage on the side for several years rebuilding PTO’s. Raymond was known as one of the best truck mechanics and PTO rebuilders around Western Kansas. He opened his shop on Railroad Avenue in Great Bend mid 1980's and later moved to a larger building on 8th street. After the girls were married and left the home Raymond once again found his love of motorcycles to be his passion when he wasn’t hunting. He loved long road trips, sometimes with friends, but often as a lone wolf. He enjoyed the freedom of the open road.

Arzella, his wife of nearly 33 years, passed away March 28, 1999. Her passing left Raymond devastated. He later stated repeatedly that his work at the shop and his Harley Road King saved him. In visiting his Uncle Jack Hellstern in the hospital in Arkansas, Raymond met a very caring nurse. Her compassion for her patients struck an instant love in him. He mentioned one time it was love at first sight. In 2002 he married Margie (Thomas) Tiger Lahar. Raymond had said over the course of many years she was the love of his life, his soul mate. She passed away in a tragic accident at the home in 2003, leaving Raymond once again devastated and heartbroken. It was during this difficult time that Raymond turned more to his motorcycle riding and the escape it brought. Even with the comfort of his daughters, six grandchildren, and his motorcycle, a void remained.

In Summer (June) 2005 his cousin, Billy Gene Lahar introduced Raymond to Teresa (Rondeau) Palmer of Chase, Kansas. The two were married on August 20, 2005. They made their home in Great Bend, KS. In December 2012, Raymond suffered his first massive stroke and had stated multiple times his body and memory would never be the same. Although he struggled with names, he could still recall mechanical details and fond memories with family and friends. Raymond continued working after the stroke but found riding his motorcycle becoming more of a struggle. He purchased a slingshot and once again became one with road trips, with Teresa joining in some adventures. Raymond retired from Lahar’s Drive Train Specialties in June 2019 and sold his life’s business in 2020.

Raymond leaves behind his wife, Teresa of Great Bend; daughters, Lynetta and husband, Kevin Shaw of Eureka, Kansas; Pamela and husband, Mike Kurtz of Junction City, Kansas; sister, Almeta Beck of Eureka, currently residing in Wichita; grandchildren: Re*****on (Jaye) Shaw, R***r (Jordan) Shaw, Colton Shaw, Chase Shaw, Katilyn (Daniel) Slaton, and Chance (Katherine) Kurtz; his precious great-grandchildren: Amelia & Anna Slaton, and Barrett Shaw; and his stepfamilies from two marriages. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack & Margaret; his wife, Arzella; his wife, Margie; his granddaughter, LySandra Shaw; his great-grandchildren, Lawson Shaw and Palmer Shaw; and his brother-in-law, Harold Beck, Jr.

Memories of Raymond reflect that he was hard but fair and honest as they come. Nothing was given to him, and hard work was instilled at a very early age, and his handshake was as good as swearing on the Bible. He was a no-nonsense man. His colorful language seemed to just be a part of descriptive adjectives in his sentences. To know Raymond meant to accept him just as he was. Raymond would engineer, build, and construct anything he could dream up. Some of the fondest memories of their dad were camping, boating Lake Wilson weekends with friends. One thing which holds the best memories for his girls was his handmade engineered super souped-up dune buggy he painted purple, and the trips to Little Sahara in Oklahoma. He later made it street legal and received stares wherever he went. He later sold it to purchase a Harley.

Raymond requested cremation and burial next to Arzella and his parents. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, April 6, 2026, at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka. In honor of Raymond’s lifelong passion for the open road, motorcyclists are encouraged to ride their bikes to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Great Bend-Brit Spaugh Zoo. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka KS 67045, which is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online, at koupfunerals.com.

Betty was born on July 16, 1948, in Eureka, Kansas, the daughter of Jessie Hubert and Ethel Anna (Booth) Matlock. She grew up in Augusta, where she graduated with the High School Class of 1966. While her nurturing spirit was evident from a young age, it was in 1988 that she reached a major professional milestone, successfully completing her boards to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. This accomplishment fulfilled her lifelong interest in caring for others and began a career defined by compassion.

On December 31, 1966, Betty was united in marriage to Marvin Wheat. To this union, four children were born. Though this marriage later ended in divorce, Betty’s greatest pride remained the family they built together.

On December 30, 2002, she found love and companionship again when she married Keith Duane Griffith in Eureka. Although Keith preceded her in death on July 14, 2004, the time they shared remained a cherished chapter of her life.

A woman of unmistakable elegance and style, Betty lived a full and vibrant life. She enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, gardening, shopping, knitting, playing bingo, singing, and attending social gatherings. She especially cherished traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She also had a passion for collecting American Indian memorabilia and treasured her jewelry, especially her turquoise pieces.

Her compassion extended well beyond her own home and family. Betty’s heart for service led her to become a foster parent, and she spent many years lovingly knitting slippers for children in need.

Betty is survived by her children: Jess and Stephanie Berding-Wheat of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Alex and Barbara (Wheat) Gittens of Phoenix, Arizona; Marvin II and Candy Wheat of Emporia, Kansas; and Randy and Rosann (Wheat) Knight of Bristow, Oklahoma. She is also survived by seven beloved grandchildren: Carson Wheat, Collin Wheat, Paige Knight, Isaac Knight, Alec Wheat, Lila Wheat, and Emma Gittens; as well as her sister, Ann M. Garr of Waxahachie, Texas. Betty’s warmth, humor, and grace will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.

John Mock

John Henry Mock, 100, of Eureka, Kansas, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 6, 2026, at the Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas. He lived an extraordinary life marked by courage, adventure, and service.

John was born September 18, 1925, in Hamilton, Kansas, to William Edward Mock and Clara Leota (Jacobs) Mock. The eldest of four children, he grew up on the family farm in Greenwood County alongside his siblings David, Maedellee, and Wilma, learning the value of hard work and family from an early age.

When his country called, John answered. Drafted into the United States Army, he served as a rifleman during World War II and was deployed to Germany, where he fought with remarkable bravery and reached the rank of Corporal. He was taken as a prisoner of war, an experience that tested his courage and resilience. He was held prisoner for 99 days before being liberated from his captors. During this harrowing time in battle and captivity, he sustained injuries that he carried with him for the rest of his life. John loved to share his story and pride in service with others. For his valor and service, John was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, the European Theater of Operations Medal with three battle stars, the American Defense Service Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

After the war, John's adventurous spirit took him around the world. He worked as a mechanic for oil companies on offshore, land, and helicopter drilling rigs, traveling to places most people only dream of visiting. The stories he told of his travels seemed impossible, but were absolutely true, and when he shared them, you couldn't miss the knowing sparkle in his eyes. Among his many adventures, John even raced in NASCAR.

On April 3, 1993, John married Mary Ellen (Brown) Sissman, a fellow World War II veteran. Together they shared a passion for military history and service, and devoted themselves to veterans organizations in Eureka. John also enjoyed show cars and volunteering throughout his community.

A quiet and proud man, John loved his family deeply. His gentle smile was easily seen in his wise eyes, and those who knew him will remember his sweet tooth—especially his love for chocolate. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened to the wisdom born of a century of living.

He is survived by his sister, Maedellee Scott of Turon; nieces, Susie and husband James Humphrey of Hutchinson, Terri Eskew of Kingman, and Linda Thompson of Wichita; nephews, Gary and wife Debbie Scott of Lyons, and Don Mock of Emporia; and several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews: Jennifer Bain, Rob Eskew, Tracey Weaver, Shawna Scott, Shannon Harrison, Jessica Richardson, Kieryn Bain, Allie Eskew, Carter Eskew, Les Weaver, and Dustin Dubberstein; as well as many extended family members and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ellen; and siblings, David Mock and Wilma (Mock) Giese.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, February 16, 2026, at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka, with Pastor Kevin Lawrence of the Climax United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation has been effected per his wishes. Military honors will be rendered by VFW Post 2712.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to VFW Post 2712, for which he himself gave so much time and effort. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online at koupfunerals.com.
