Joseph Calvin Caylor III

Joseph Calvin Caylor, III, of Eureka, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 31, 2025, at his home in Eureka, at the age of 50.

Joseph, known to everyone as "Joey," was born on November 6, 1974, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the son of Joseph Calvin Caylor, Jr. and Loretta Louise (Partridge) Caylor. He was raised in Colorado. During his high school years, the family moved to Kansas, and Joey graduated from Eureka High School. Soon after, he went to work for the county.

On October 1, 1995, Joey was united in marriage to Cynthia Marie Morris in Eureka. To this union, two children were born. This marriage later ended in divorce.

Joey spent many years working for the City of Eureka on both the Streets Department and the Water Department. Outside of his family, his life centered on his career and his time as a dedicated volunteer for the Eureka Fire Department, in which he took great pride.

In the late 2010s, Joey began a new chapter of his life with Shay Kane. The couple welcomed one son together.

Joey had a genuine zest for life that was evident in his deep love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, finding peace and excitement in the natural world.

Joey is survived by his partner, Shay Kane; his children: Vanessa Caylor of Newberry, Florida; Colton Caylor of El Dorado, Kansas; and Nicholas Caylor of El Dorado, Kansas; and his adopted siblings: Randy Frisbee, Renee Frisbee, Robert Frisbee, and Raymond Frisbee, all of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has been effected. While no services are planned at this time, a memorial service will be held at a later date. Koup Family Funeral Home is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online at koupfunerals.com.

Curtis Daniels

Curtis Wain Daniels of Hamilton, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Via Christi Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, at the age of 61.

He was born on July 7, 1964, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of the late Haskel Wain and Carrie Elizabeth (Kitchens) Daniels. He was raised in Kansas City, attending local schools and graduating from Turner High School.

He was united in marriage to Susan in Joplin, Missouri. Two sons were born to this union before the marriage ended in divorce. Curtis then married Connie Radford, and they had three children before their marriage also ended in divorce. On September 9, 2002, Curtis married Lorelei May Newman in Pleasanton. Her three children became his, completing their family.

Curtis was a truck driver for many years, working for several different trucking companies throughout his career.

Quirky and endlessly curious, Curtis embraced his inner nerd. He connected with people through his great sense of humor and by sharing his unique perspective on the world. He genuinely loved teaching and learning, and his conversations often included his favorite game: dropping an unexpected fact or piece of trivia just to challenge and delight those around him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lorelei, of the home; eight children: Jeff Daniels; Jack Daniels; Jennifer of Texas; Justin Daniels of Kansas City, Kansas; James Daniels of Kansas City, Kansas; Amber Cooksey of Hamilton, Kansas; Randall Miller; and Michael Miller, currently on mission in Peru; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Charlie Daniels of Stockton, Missouri; and Corby Daniels of Kansas City, Kansas.

Clifford Thomas Buck

Clifford Thomas Buck, who was most at home in the vast landscape of the outdoors, died on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at his home in Piedmont, at the age of 76.

He was born on January 10, 1949, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Morris Walter and Esther Zella (Biddle) Buck. He was raised in Pittsburg, attending Holy Cross Lutheran Grade School and Adams Elementary. The family later moved to Wichita, where Clifford attended East High School. From a young age, he had an intense interest in motors and cars, owning his first car before his teen years. His passion led him to spend time building cars and heavily engaging in drag racing. He later went to California to learn Motocross racing, which he pursued for several years.

Upon returning to Wichita, he and his father founded Perimeter Fencing in Piedmont. They operated the business together for several years, securing contracts for various state and federal projects. Clifford was a true woodsman, dedicated to a lifelong love of the outdoors. He spent countless hours fishing and hunting, and his expertise led him to dedicated years raising and training coonhounds to run the trail. He also possessed a skillful hand, running a side business trapping and preparing pelts from muskrats, and was equally adept at fine cabinet carpentry.

On June 6, 1981, Clifford was united in marriage to Linda Sue Keleher in Wichita. They made their home in Piedmont, and to this union, three children were born. Clifford later in life worked as a truck driver for Cornejo and Sons Construction, eventually retiring in the mid-2010s to spend more time on his quiet outdoor pursuits.

He is survived by his children: Rachael Buck of Eureka, Jesse Buck of Piedmont, and Dillon Buck of Wichita; eight grandchildren: Keegan Beach, Ken Comer, Channing Comer, Thaddeus Buck, Avalyn Buck, Cole Burtin, Bethany Buck, and Delilah Buck; one great-grandson, Heston Beach, who is due to arrive soon; and two siblings: Sally Ann Wilson of Wichita, and Lawrence Paul Buck of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, David Morris Buck, leaving the woods quieter in his absence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Rev. Sue Ellen Wenthe of Christ Lutheran Church in Eureka officiating. Interment will follow at Piedmont Cemetery, where Clifford’s body will be laid to rest and return to the beloved earth he roamed. Visitation hours are set for 5:30 to 7:30 P.M., Monday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Kansas Wildlife Federation. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka KS 67045, which is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online, at koupfunerals.com.

Ssgt. Paul Arthur Heggemeier

Paul Arthur Heggemeier was born in Nashville, Illinois, on December 21, 1915, the son of Paul Gerhart and Zella Ann (Wilson) Heggemeier. Early in his life, his parents moved the family first to Oklahoma and then to Kansas, settling in Madison from El Dorado when he was about seven years old. He attended Madison public schools and, as a young boy, joined the Methodist church, where he regularly participated in Sunday school and church services. He was baptized on April 30, 1916, at St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Pinckneyville, by his uncle, the Reverend O.W. Heggemeier.

In February 1936, Sgt. Heggemeier began his military career by enlisting in the Second U.S. Cavalry at Fort Riley, Kansas. The following year, he transferred to the Air Corps. His service overseas began on October 4, 1939, when he was deployed to the Philippine Islands.

By 1941, he had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, serving with the 3rd Pursuit Squadron at Nichols Field, Manila. He was later reassigned to the headquarters squadron of the Air Forces U.S. Army Forces in the Far East (USAFFE), under the command of General Douglas MacArthur.

He remained in Manila in September 1941 and was present at Nichols Field during the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941. The War Department initially reported him "missing in action on Bataan" on May 7, 1942. For three years, his family received no word of his fate. On June 25, 1945, the War Department confirmed that Staff Sergeant Heggemeier had passed away on June 29, 1942, while a Japanese prisoner on the Philippine Island, with the cause of death attributed to malaria and malnutrition.

Staff Sergeant Heggemeier's remains were initially recovered and buried with military honors in 1945. However, in the years following, additional remains were identified as belonging to SSgt. Heggemeier. This necessitated the exhumation of his remains from Blakely Cemetery on July 16, 2025, for further anthropological analysis in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Now, after a meticulous and successful identification process, Staff Sergeant Heggemeier's remains are finally ready to return to their ultimate, final resting place, fully intact, securing the promise of his final homecoming.

Staff Sergeant Heggemeier was survived by his parents; one sister, Mrs. Betty Kimberlin; and two brothers, Pvt. Charles T. Heggemeier, and Billy E. Heggemeier.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Blakely Cemetery, Madison.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Greenwood County All Veterans Memorial. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka KS 67045, which is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online, at koupfunerals.com.
