We are kicking off our updated FaceBook page by sponsoring one of our favorite events in Humboldt County, the 34th Annual OysterFest! So blessed that we can all mingle in the ocean fresh air and celebrate life and friendship! From when our kids were little and participated in the oyster calling contest, to now, when we can all celebrate together, we enjoy the many delicacies and festivities that make Humboldt our home. One thing that we, at Healthy Smiles Humboldt, have in common with oysters is the love of pearly whites✨🦷✨

Welcome back, friends!!
We have missed you all and your beautiful smiles, hiding behind those masks!

We wanted to take this opportunity to tell you the many steps we’ve taken, to go above and beyond our already solid infection control protocol. Our goal is to stay in line with our already in-place infection control procedures for surfaces and equipment, while adding new protocols to help to decrease the possibility of aerosol droplet, micro-organisms. We have arranged things in our office so that social distancing is possible, as well as removed things from the “waiting room” that could be high risk for passing viruses (Our “Waiting Room”, is no longer... it is now our Screening Room. Please do not wait for family or friends in this common area.)
1. Virtual Waiting Room: Please stay in your car and text us when you arrive at our office by simply responding to your confirmation text. We will let you know when your room is ready and you can enter the facility.
2. While entering the building, please keep your mask on until seated in your room, for your appointment.
3. Screening Room: You will be offered hand sanitizer, asked brief screening questions, as well as temperature and oxygen saturation measured by one of our Patient Care Coordinators. (We may also recommend that you swish with our antimicrobial rinse for 30 seconds, before certain procedures.)
4. Whenever possible, we will have a faceshield, or plexiglass, in addition to surgical/N95 mask if we are within 6 feet, especially for treatment.
5. All rooms are equipped with state of the art/hospital grade air purification (surgicallycleanair.com) systems, as well as hydrogen peroxide air difusers which are located throughout the office. We also use our own distilled water purification system.
Our team is looking forward to seeing you soon! Please call our office if you have further questions!!
Sincerely,
Dr Elloway & Dr Wonenberg

Dear Healthy Smiles Humboldt family,

Our top priority is the health and well-being of our patients, families, staff and community. In this unprecedented time, we are deeply committed to keeping everyone safe.
In light of the evolving pandemic and out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to close our practice for the next weeks to be determined. We believe that this closure will allow us to more effectively evaluate this dynamic situation and assist in following the CDC’s guidance on social separation. If you have an appointment scheduled with us this week, our office will be in touch to help reschedule your appointment.
Dr Elloway & Dr Wonenberg WILL be on call in the event of a dental emergency. Should you require emergency dental care, please call our office as you normally would and one of our dentists will contact you.
We did not make this decision lightly. A great deal of care, research and planning guided our decision. We will continue to evaluate the situation as it evolves and determine on a weekly basis when it is appropriate for us to return to our normal business hours.
Again, please understand that we are making this decision with the health and well-being of our patients, our families, our team and our community in mind.
We wish all of you continued health and strength during this challenging time.

Sincerely,
Drs Elloway and Wonenberg

Update: We are working hard to assess the COVID-19 situation as it pertains to dental health and wellness and the near future of treatment at our office.

Through our monitoring of the situation regarding COVID-19 and caring for Dental Patients, This is the information from the CDC:

“According to the CDC standard, precautions should be followed when caring for any patient, regardless of suspected or confirmed COVID-19.

If the patient is afebrile (without fever) and otherwise without symptoms consistent with COVID-19, then precautions specific to COVID-19 are not required, and the need for PPE (personal protective equipment) should be based on what is routinely recommended for that procedure as outlined in CDC's Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings.

If not clinically urgent, dental health care personnel should consider postponing non-emergency or elective dental procedures in patients who HAVE SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS OF RESPIRATORY ILLNESS.

In consideration of these precautions we will be incorporating telephone triage when confirming appointments and eliminating patient penalties for cancellations and missed appointments related to respiratory illness.

Look forward to these questions when we are confirming appointments

In the last 5 days have you:
-Had temperature over 100.4°F? Y N
-Felt Feverish? Y N
-Had a cough? Y N
-Felt short of Breath? Y N

Do you have any risk factors for severe disease from the COVID virus?
-Over the age of 50 Y N
-Pulmonary/Lung Disease Y N
(Asthma, COPD, etc)
-Coronary/Heart Disease Y N
(Hypertension, Congestive Heart Failure, etc)
-Smoker Y N
-Pregnant Y N
-Any immunocompromised conditions
-Uncontrolled diabetes

Do you live with anyone with Risk factors for COVID Disease?”

Additional details on infection prevention and control, triage, and other aspects of healthcare preparedness are available on the CDC website.

This may change by the hour.
I thank you for your patience and cooperation in helping give time to those fighting in the hospital, both patients infected or not, and the ones caring for them.
