A tear slipped down across the bridge of my nose, and then another one followed. I was lying on a used pottery barn couch. Day three, still in the same position. Gut wrenched in pain, swollen joints, burning, unable to move. Loss and disappointment had hollowed me out. I didn't want to keep going, not like this. I can't live like this. I just can't. But somehow from that pit, I made a decision, a whisper inside, said, “SEEK”!
That was my breaking point. I said, something has to change. I'll do whatever it takes. I'll go wherever I have to go. I can't live like this anymore.
But here's what makes this surprising. I wasn't a stranger to healing. I was literally born into it. Yet, there I was obese, living with chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel, autoimmune, subterfuge in every cell!
One night, one trauma that shattered my soul and began my body's destruction. But that's another talk and that's another story. It's one that I've shared from Harvard to Nasdaq, from MIT to NASA, and at the National Academy of Medicine in Mexico City. But this story, this story is about how I got off the couch the moment I went from passive to an active participant in the seeker's journey.
HEALING doesn't knock politely at your door. It begins the moment you dare to seek. The seeker isn't flaky. The seeker isn't foolish. The seeker's brave because the seeker is the one who says, there has to be more than this. I can't live like this anymore. And then they dare go looking for answers. And not everyone's road looks the same. For some, that means working with doctors. For others that may be traveling far, simply beginning right where they are. My story is just one version, but what matters is the act of seeking. My seeking carried me across the world, and I learned from many cultures…
The main thing I learned about HEALING is it really comes back to the BASICs.
That’s right the BASICs. You know the stuff like getting enough sleep which is 8-9 hours. Or exercising everyday especially early in the morning. Or even eating vegetables every meal with lean protein. You know the BASICs;
They aren’t sexy, but they are tried and true. And since I got off that couch and now can run circles at almost 50 years old around most 20 year olds- who don’t do the basics…
