Greene County Health System is sharing this update to keep our community informed and safe during the current flu season. Flu activity is now elevated nationwide and very high across Alabama, and we are seeing an increase in flu-like illness in our region as well. This rise is consistent with what hospitals and clinics are experiencing across the state.
Most people recover at home, but flu can be serious for older adults, young children, pregnant women, people with chronic conditions, and long-term care residents.
If you develop symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, headache, fatigue, or body aches, stay home, rest, and contact your healthcare provider. Antiviral treatment works best when started early.
It’s not too late to get a flu shot it helps reduce illness severity, hospitalization risk, and spread.
Please continue to wash hands, cover coughs, stay home when sick, and use clinics or primary care when appropriate.
Seek emergency care immediately if there is difficulty breathing, chest pain, confusion, severe weakness, dehydration, or sudden worsening in infants or frail adults.
Our hospital, clinic, and nursing home remain prepared to care for our community, and we are monitoring flu activity closely.
Thank you for helping us keep Greene County healthy and strong.
