24 years ago this morning, countless Americans woke up to what they thought would be an ordinary day. None of us could have imagined the events that would forever change our country.

Today, we pause to honor the lives lost, the families forever impacted, and the heroes who ran toward danger when others ran away. We are especially grateful for the bravery of first responders—firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and so many others—whose selfless actions saved lives and inspired a nation.
