Cultivating ROOTS, LLC

Cultivating ROOTS, LLC Helping clients cultivate relationship outcomes and opportunities for transforming self-concept is a profession that I hold dearly.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have a passion for helping others by providing a warm,
safe, comfortable environment where you can truly be yourself. I have been a school counselor for over 16 years, and have worked with children in elementary through
the 12th grade. It takes an extraordinary person with a special heart to work effectively with children,
and I take a firm, direct approach with loving and nurturing support. In addition to working with
children, I also enjoy working with parents and families on establishing boundaries and managing the
increasingly difficult tasks of parenting in this age of entitlement. I am a mom and a military spouse who has lived and worked in the counseling field in South
Carolina, Georgia and New York. I earned my Master of Education (M.Ed). in School Guidance and
Counseling from South Carolina State University, and my Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D). from
Capella University in Human Services with a specialization in Professional Counseling . I am currently
pursuing a certification in Play Therapy, as well as a certification in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. I
am a life-long learner, so I am continually seeking opportunities to attend workshops, seminars and
professional trainings to further my knowledge and enhance my ability to help others innovatively and
creatively. I do not subscribe to a particular counseling model because I don’t believe in a “one size fits all”
approach to meeting my client’s individual needs. Instead, I use my instincts and professional training
to help children, families and individuals look at their lives with a fresh perspective. I really look forward to being given the opportunity to developing a therapeutic relationship with
you. Let’s work together and watch your life unfold to be more fulfilling and meaningful.

Just because you don’t see my internal struggle doesn’t mean the struggle isn’t there. I just happen to have the emotional intelligence and resilience to be able to manage my emotions and self-regulate.

Ok parents. Here's a little help for anyone struggling to have a conversation with your children. When they come back from school, hanging out with friends, or even if they're just chilling at home ask them questions like..
1. What kind of day did you have today?
2. What made your day good or bad?
3. What are 3 good choices you made today?
4. What would you do differently if you could do today over?

This allows them to answer something besides "good", "alright", "same ole same ole", etc. Also it helps them think critically and be able to do some self reflection. It helps you see how your child's thought process is and it fosters open communication with them. If you do this regularly, they will expect to have to answer these questions, which will help them make better choices throughout their day. It may feel weird the first couple times but don't let them off with vague answers. Don't ask them in an interrogative way, but just in general conversation on the way home from school if you pick them up, while you guys are fixing plates or waiting in the drive thru, etc. Be intentional about giving your children YOU!

You're welcome.

Protect your peace.
