Counselor Spotlight!
Before receiving her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health from Northwestern University, Karla worked in the nonprofit sector. During this time, she gained extensive experience working with individuals impacted by trauma, including adult immigrants and refugees, homeless young adults, and youth in the foster care system. After receiving her Master’s, Karla provided therapy to adults involved with the court system working towards reunification with their children, as well as providing trauma therapy to survivors of sexual violence. These experiences have ingrained in Karla a deep commitment to social justice and anti-racism work. Karla works with adults and adolescents dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma, particularly trauma related to sexual violence, as well as issues surrounding relationships, life
transitions, sexuality, and identity.

Karolina has a double Masters in Counseling Psychology and Education Specialist Degree from the University of Florida. She is also trained in meditation, energy work, and healing practices. Karolina has experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups with adults and adolescents. She also has extensive experience in clinical assessment and treatment, working with multicultural and diverse populations specializing in mood, anxiety, and trauma disorders along with self-esteem, relationships, life transitions, adjustment, and identity issues.

Counselor Spotlight!
Robert specializes in relationship development, identity issues, anxiety, depression, and q***r-related issues. Before becoming a counselor, Robert was a teacher for nine years. Robert is a big proponent of self-care and believes therapy is a big part of it. Robert believes in helping others and is the Director of Community Counseling Services, which helps provide mental health services to those who might not otherwise be able to afford it, to make therapy available for all.

Here at Skylight, we believe mental health care is a basic human right, not a privilege. Our mission is to make therapy affordable for everyone, so we offer free therapy with our clinical interns. Counselor Spotlight!
Arlene was inspired to become a professional mental health counselor when her 15-year-old daughter was diagnosed with depression. This experience allowed her to realize the value of meaningful therapeutic relationships that explore thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviors and how helpful they can be to individuals, couples, or families in bridging the gap between who they are and who they want to be. Arlene is passionate about assisting clients to conquer the stumbling blocks that limit their potential to achieve self-actualization. Arlene is committed to creating non-judgmental, compassionate, empowering, and counseling environments that are unique to each client’s needs, situation, culture, age, and sexual identity.

We don't do any of what we do alone. Inspiration for the Weary Therapist came about organically, through a series of talks with the therapists at Skylight Counseling Center. Without the hardworking and dedicated staff, past and present, at Skylight, this book would not exist.
