As we wrap up Social Work Month, we're grateful for the dedication of the Impact team.

Anna reminds us of the ripple effect that begins when someone feels capable and valued. Niko highlights the importance of uplifting participants. And Myrna shares how empathy is key to her approach.

To the staff who shared their experiences: thank you for showing us what it means to empower, uplift, and walk alongside participants on their journeys.

Rose and Andreea have very different roles at Impact, but their perspective highlight the same truth. Meaningful support happens in many forms.

Rose, a Lead Case Manager, celebrates the "small wins" and helps participants recognize progress in everyday achievements.

Andreea, an Accountant, understands the importance of creating a safe space for participants because when they feel safe, they thrive, and the community grows stronger as a result.

Social Work can look different for every role, whether staff are in direct service or supporting participants from behind the scenes, the work they do moves the mission forward.

Director of Operations Vince Heneghan was in Washington, D.C. earlier this month to attend the National Low Income Housing Coalition 2026 Housing Policy Forum.

During his time in D.C., Vince joined advocates from across Illinois for meetings with legislative staff, emphasizing the urgent need to protect and expand federal housing resources.

These conversations come at a critical time as federal funding shifts continue to restrict Permanent Supportive Housing. Nonprofits are being challenged to think creatively about sustainability. Vince and his peers discussed the importance of diversifying funding streams, maintaining flexibility, and navigating the reality that demand for housing far exceeds available resources.

This International Women's Day, we celebrate the resilience, leadership, and determination of women in our community.

At Impact, we see that strength every day in the women we work alongside.

Women like Maria, who is a participant in Impact's Employment Program, and returned to the workforce as a home health aide.

Maria says "“This program brought me back to life. I have a purpose now. I’m a flower. I planted my seeds a little late, but I know I’m going to bloom.”

Stories like Maria's remind us whats possible when women have the support and opportunity to pursue their goals. You can read Maria's story in our annual report here: https://impactbehavioral.org/about/financials/

Black History Month invites reflection, on the past and on the work that remains.

Representation in mental health matters because lived experience, cultural understanding, and trust are essential to effective care. Historically, Black communities have faced systemic barriers, bias, and misdiagnosis within mental health systems. Black mental health professionals and advocates challenged these inequities through treatment approaches and advocacy efforts.

Today, increasing Black representation in mental health continues to be vital for reducing disparities, improving outcomes, and ensuring care is affirming and culturally responsive.

This Black History Month, we’re honoring Black mental health leaders whose contributions continue to shape the field of behavioral health.

Inez Beverly Prosser, PhD, was the first Black woman to earn a doctorate in psychology. Her research focused on the psychological effects of segregation on Black children, challenging dominant narratives and highlighting the emotional toll of inequality long before these topics were being discussed in the mainstream.

Despite facing immense barriers, Dr. Prosser’s work laid critical groundwork for future research on racial identity, education, and mental health. Her legacy reminds us that progress in mental health has been driven by voices that refused to be silenced.

Honoring these leaders means continuing their work toward equity, access, and culturally responsive care.

In honor of Black History Month, Impact Behavioral Health Partners is recognizing Black pioneers whose work transformed mental health care and social justice.

Mamie Phipps Clark, PhD, was a groundbreaking psychologist whose research on racial identity, self-perception and segregation's effects, had a lasting impact on psychology and civil rights. Alongside her husband, Kenneth Clark, Dr. Clark conducted the “Doll Test,” which demonstrated how segregation and racism negatively affected Black children’s self-esteem and identity.

Her research was cited in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case, helping to dismantle school segregation in the United States.

Dr. Clark co-founded the Northside Center for Child Development in Harlem, providing culturally responsive mental health services to underresourced communities.

Dr. Clark’s work highlighted the deep connection between social conditions and mental health. Her practice continues to inform trauma-informed, equity-centered care today.
